so
If that person looks like they are stuck up and a little vain, then they are 4w3.
If they look like have an emo vibe, there is a high chance that person is a 4w5.
If they person wear some of the craziest stuff, chances of a 4w3 is high.
If that person seems to be hiding a lot of emotion or seem to be spending a lot of time in their head, they are 4w5.\
If that person is dramatic and over the top, then it is a chance that they are 4w3.
If you feel a creepiness from them, then you can say that person is a 4w5.

4w3s have a tendency a bit more to view their lives as a sort of soap opera and you can feel like they are acting and
it feels more like a story.

4w5s have a tendecy to be dress in regular clothing and they are prone to come across as pessimistic and cerebral, but not all
4w5s are like that.

List of 4w3s List of 4w5s
Pegasus from Yugioh Raven from Teen Titans
Ivy from Soul Calibur Crona from Soul Eater
Sir Isaac Newton Hinata from Naruto
Michael Jackson Revy from Black Lagoon
Raphael from Soul Calibur Lucy from Elfen Lead
Vampire Dude from Blood Lust

In some cases - like..I think is true for me - people display equal characteristics of both their wings, so that there is in fact no dominant one.

Sounds like a sandwich.

Obviously it's what happens at Bayou City Wings on Tuesdays. :alttongue:

Yeah those look kinda gross. Instead.... have these Thai ones. Much more aesthetically tongue watering than those made American style.

No offense to 4's, but...who the hell would want to be a 4? Haha

who would want to be any enneatype. Tbh enneagram sounds like a system Satan devised, gifting us the ability to return from Hell and back into the Earthly realm in exchange for one of the 9 deadly curses. "OOoohhohoh... Enneagram four? Oh you will hate yourself, but I'll give you a sprinkle of 7 and 9 to help keep you alive!"

Being an introverted 4 So is even more fun. On the one hand you want to be unique (4 aka special snowflake syndrome) and the universal human desire for individuation and on the other hand as a So you want to gain social value to influence from your niche within a group. Which requires social interactions and energy expenditure. Quite push/pull.

Last time I checked, this was called 'balanced wings'? Just sayin, with how you ppl seem to be relatively rare it might be easier to find each other if u knew about all the terminology.

But, I'm somewhat delighted to learn that ppl would classify Lucy as an 4w5. While I don't plan to go mass-mudering any time soon, I related to that character a lot/ she meant a lot to me in that particular phase of my life. I was probably too young to watch anything containing graphic mass murder at the time, but simply through catharsis, it helped me a aloT at getting through a hard time in my life. (along with discovering art, and my best friend/crush at the time, who basically introduced me to it all)

As for "Why woul anyone want to be 4... well, since I'm still a tad more 5-ish at the end of the day, might not be the best person to ask, but, principally all types suck (for yourself & others) at their worst, and are awesome & admirable at their best, they also all have their upsides.
It's just that in this world, it's a widely accepted scientific fact that there is no such thing as as a free lunch.

As Amar alludes to, it totally depends on the 4's level of health.

An unhealthy 4 is, to be blunt, a basket case. That healthy 4s have to share an Enneatype with the aforementioned should, if anything, make them more admirable.

To answer OP's question:

A 4's basic yearning is for authenticity and thus they constantly examine themselves, trying to figure out what is "truly them" and what is not. However they will seek to accomplish this in different ways, depending on their wing. For this reason, in practice I don't believe the "balanced wings" theory is possible.

Type 3
Basic Desire: to be admired
Basic Fear: of being rejected

Type 5
Basic Desire: to understand the world
Basic Fear: of being overwhelmed by the world

A 4w3 is therefore much more focused on engaging with the outside world than a 4w5 is. The 4w3 wants to be admired, even worshiped (3) for being special and unique (4) whereas the 4w5 wants to understand something differently (5) as this will make them feel special and unique (4). At low levels of health, 4w3s can come across as overly theatrical, provocative and narcissistic, and 4w5s can come across as schizoid, melancholic and perpetual victims.

If it helps, I can imagine a 4w3 as the stereotypical arthouse director and a 4w5 as the stereotypical psychologist or painter.

There are definite advantages in it.

What are they, in your perspective?
(I feel like I can understand some 4 struggles and advantages, even though I am a 2; I mistyped as a 4 for a long time. But it would be cool to hear from actual 4's.)

What I enjoy about myself are very much also about being a Feeler and my specific function stacking as a 4, sp/sx. I can extract great amounts of stimulation from so many aspects of life, and I can find it in the strangest corners; because I am so preoccupied with unfiltered truth I can find beauty in things that make other people flinch and turn away. Also because of this, when working with people, helping people, spending time with them I am a very accepting person with bandwidth for large amounts and variety of emotional communication. I get a lot of joy in seeing things that others don't want to, recognizing the importance of things that are ignored.

Also, since I've learned to negotiate myself, I can negotiate even the worst acid trip like a freaking shaman. (A skill which is actually applicable in sober life as well)
