Ahhh! You got off the waiting list already???? So jelly. :<

Did you get the bracelet or the necklace?

Yeah, I didn't know it would happen so quickly. I got the silvery one with the light-colored wood, and it says it comes with both a bracelet and a necklace it can be clipped into. I usually don't like wrist trackers but that's mainly because the plastic/rubber ones give me a gross rash so I may actually use the bracelet for this one.

I got off the waiting list too, but I'm a little concerned about some of the reviews I read*... Maybe I can hope/assume that the product will improve as the app improves.

Also, the more negative reviews I read (which were still not that negative, relatively speaking) were reviews of previous models. So a lot of those things may have improved.

I think I'm just nervous about spending $150 on something I don't desperately need...

I just bought the damn thing. In the darker color because that is the color of my soul.

Hey, you just got a promotion- what good is it if you can't make a few splurges? (And it's not like it was an impulse buy- you thought about it for days, and did research on it.)

Basic health housekeeping stuff, crossposted from my blog:

Echocardiogram was normal, no chamber enlargement (good sign that I'm not having a lot of Afib episodes since they usually lead to some chamber enlargement). Sleep study with CPAP was Sunday night, and I can't wait to get myself one of those fuckers to use at home because even despite all the wires and electrodes and glue in my hair, what little sleep I did get was SO GOOD it was almost like a drug, and now I want more of it.

I upgraded my phone and bra situation this paycheck because I didn't know how short the waitlist would be. :(

I'll get it at the end of the month. Tell me all the things about how wonderful it is and what your transformation sequence looks like when you become Sailor EJ. :(

Also, personal update: I'm slowly but surely getting back into my workout habit again. Ran two miles yesterday and did 45 minutes of the Blogilates lower body playlist.

One of my other goals is to get into the habit of studying one hour a night to get myself prepped for summer school in June. I'm not doing well with it. I finish work and I'm just wiped, want to lie down and read news online. It makes me really really concerned about how realistic my plan to work while in school actually is. I love my job, and don't want to leave it, so I'm torn about whether school is actually the right choice after all.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I might start a thread as well.

Sigh. You're right. I just get anxious whenever I buy anything that costs more than $50. That's part of where the research need comes from. (That, plus excellent training from my 5w6 dad.)

I'm getting better at splurging... slowly, but surely. "Operation Treat Yo Self" continues!

Oh I've been Sailor EJ for a while :D

But this will amplify my powers considerably! I'll let you know when I learn Supreme Thunder.

Jealous of your run. It's been so cold where I am -- and I'm not good at the running-in-inclement-weather thing. Maybe when it gets to like 45 degrees and not rainy.

Please start a thread on this -- I have the same problem, and may try the same thing in the next couple of years (working part time and going to grad school).

That sucks man. Do you have a gym membership? Treadmills are obviously not ideal, but sometimes it's good just to move around. Swimming also gets you into amazing shape.

Kk. Will do.

BRB, making it my avatar. (Why wasn't it before??)

I used to have a gym membership, but wasn't doing much with it, so I let it lapse. Might try again with a cheaper (or free!) gym after I move.

I hate treadmills -- they're boring and hard on my knees -- but yeah, I'll use them in a pinch. I used one 2-3x at the health club my mom goes to when I was on vacation in December.

What I've been doing for now has been one of the HIIT workout video series that Ivy recommended, plus yoga. It's been really good for my glutes and abs especially, which is good because when I do yoga it tends to do most for my hamstrings, shoulders, and back. Balances it out a bit, and is good cross-training for when I get back into running in the next month or two.

I forget if I've mentioned this in this thread, but I freaking love my standing desk, and I have to evangelize it a bit. You know how when you sit for too long, you get kind of bleary? That NEVER happens at a standing desk. You are so alert. You STAY alert. And obviously it's way better for you (though you have to remember to stretch -- and you have to adjust to the extra 200-300 calories you'll burn when you switch -- I was really hungry all the time when I first switched).

There's only one downside...

... YMMV.

The cultishness creeps me out a little, and I've heard from various sources that the intensity of it is too hard on your body -- but I wouldn't rule it out entirely. What are your thoughts?

Just be careful with CrossFit, I have known several personal trainers who've had to rehab people who were in CrossFit. They were overtraining and putting too much stress on their bodies.

Just did 10.8 miles on the new bike in about 40 minutes. Still don't have a bike computer as they cost around $350, so I have to do the math to figure speed. 16.2mph isn't too bad for a beginner!

My speed is good, but I just need to get more saddle time to get comfortable on the road bike for longer stretches. It would really help if I started doing some core exercises, but spending more time on the saddle will work my core on its own eventually. My goal is to participate in a MS 150 or a gran fondo. First I need to work up to 20 mile rides a couple times a week. It will probably take a couple of months to work up to that.

The bike is great though. Its so much faster than I am right now. Can't wait till I can really wring some good performance out of it.

COOL
Falcarius did a 5k timed run in the morning, 14 mile cycle ride there and back, 30 minutes of resistant band work, and is going for a 3k recovery run in a minute as he is hardcore. ;)

You can get them fairly cheap if you don't require stuff like elevation, gradient, or heart rate. I mean, in Florida the elevation and gradient usually wouldn't be saying much anyway. :D

I want a good one with a heart rate monitor, probably a garmin. I actually have a cheap one on another bike and it was a pain in the ass to run. Yea I don't have to have one that expensive, but for what I'm trying to do training wise I would like to have the garmin. I'm a save up and buy the right thing once kinda guy but ymmv.

I haven't gone on a run for ages. I'm eating too much junk food and probably getting very plump. I just don't know how to get back into the habit of logging my food and exercising.
