Yeah I'd really love to see a diagram of how the black hole, tesseract, and wormhole connect.
How did he manage to Luke Skywalker it into the tesseract door after crossing the event horizon, considering just how much black hole area there was? That was some pin-point accuracy by whoever put it there. Kind of makes you wonder why they thought Saturn would be a good spot for the worm hole rather than, say, behind the moon. Also I thought getting that close to a black hole would rip you apart? Maybe he wasn't really that close to it after all.

The only realistic thing about the black hole scene was the distortion of light. But even if there were no energy present (cosmic rays, x-rays, etc etc) to kill them immediately, the forces of gravity would have ripped them apart.

So did you like it or not?

Absolutely loved it!

Humor setting: 100%

I did like the robots. 2 stars for the visuals and the robots, but that most definitely does NOT make a movie.

And I would have screamed if they quoted that Dylan Thomas poem one more time. I LIKED THAT FUCKING POEM. :ranting:

Just watched it.

No idea why things were happening, for what reason and how they actually solved it. Lots of "huh". But whatever, I enjoyed it anyways

SO MANY QUESTIONS!:explode:

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Also, your avatar kinda looks like that douchebag falling into a black hole, haha.

My question is how a fucking black hole sustains life bearing planets. YEAH that sounds like a fun solar system to live in.

I guess the movie requires a little bit of what they would normally say "leap of faith". The love is quantifiable cheesy part, made only sense in the end when he was sending her signals in the end and I think that was connected to the line they quoted saying that nobody knows what is on the other side of the (worm?black?)hole. So it was up for grabs what every they could think of. Probably the same thing space odyssey went with.

wish I could find that transcript.

I don't have problems with leaps of faith. I'm moderately good at suspension of disbelief, even ... it's why I cry at so many movies, lol. But you can't publicize something as this amazing science movie and then cut corners with lazy deus ex machina and completely shallow emotionalism. I for one found that time travel tesseract bookcase scene practically unbearable. And no, it doesn't make love quantifiable, there's nothing about love that was quantified, the alien future humans just decided to make life easy for him and spin him off to another dimension and while running around there and raging at his fate, he had a sudden bright idea ... that his daughter miraculously picked up on the other end because she "just knew." That's not "love is quantifiable," it's lazy storytelling that has clearly never heard of "show, don't tell."

The wormhole/event horizon/time dilation blah blah blah ... yeah, my high school physics textbooks already went there and so did all the Asimov books I used to read as a teen. I wonder why they haven't made the Foundation books into films yet. Those would actually be worth it.

EDIT: Just clarifying, this is all personal opinion, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, I'm not attacking you but I hated it and I need to vent my spleen, hahaha.

I'm with SK on this one - there were flaws but this was an instance where I didn't mind them in the scheme of being entertained along the way. It was well-crafted, beautifully shot, loved the soundtrack (I'm noting here a few folks found the sound-mix difficult but in the IMAX theatre we went to tonight, no problems there, dialogue was clear and soundtrack thunderously powerful at times. Ya, the whole "love will save the world" thing can feel forced and contrived, but I was ok with suspending belief on the bookcase scenes.

As as for Mann:

I don't think the soundtrack is officially released, yet, is it?

I think Zimmer wanted to wait two weeks after release so people could hear the music in context of the movie rather than as a standalone. At least that is what I read.

Hmm, yes - I suppose I shouldn't say the "soundtrack" yet, I enjoyed the music in the context of the movie.

A thought, not sure if it's in this thread already but wanted to type it out:

eta: and I guess the first thought I have in these types of movies - if we or an alien race are evolved enough to plant a wormhole and build some sort of 5th dimension tesseract - wouldn't they have the tech to just come for a visit and say, "Yo, your planet is dying but we can totally help you out with that. Here's a short-list of habitable worlds, a giant spaceship, some handy lessons on spacetime and hey, good luck peeps!"

It's a mediocre Nolan Movie with the paradox being how did he create this lackluster and the magnificent as sexy as Scarlett Johansson with 10 Tits that is Inception

I don't think Inception is even his best movie.

Looper was better overall, although not nearly as ambitious.
