I love tiny house blog, and Ive been attempting to find a company in the Houston area that does similar work to the article but I think in the end it's going to be cheaper to hire a friend to help me build it myself and just buy the materials.

Why thank you kindly! Im still playing with it, its just a prototype, but now I know that it is definitely going to work and everything will fit. Ive been playing with the thought process of having the built-in bed-desk thing from the tree-hugger website.. Make the place taller to handle it, and taller walls would give me more shelving and storage up on the walls themselves to free up floor space. We'll see how it goes. So far I'm really happy with the results, and I really like the simplicity of this program.

Ah! well, the program is a simple one.. My shower will actually just be an open space with the spout on the wall, military style, and the bathroom is a wetroom, completely waterproof all around. The toilet is accessed via the shower itself.. but I still had to measure out the proper amount of showering space with a shower picture.

The empty space along the wall with the TV is also being utilized, as a closet area in the prototype.. but the ikea-style open closet system is not really in the program either, so I just left it blank for simplicity's sake.

Prototype, with the addition of using a tree-hugger system of the bed, desk, and closet being combined into a single unit.

I think I like this idea a lot more.. If I use a queen-sized bed instead of a regular full-sized one, and make the walls much taller, this tiny house could flow a lot smoother.

Going to the casino tonight. I only go there because they make the best sandwiches which are coupled with a side of cornichons and pickled pearl onions. I think cornichons have become my preferred pickle of choice.. The taste is a very savory, not too sour with just the tiniest hint of sweetness. Very very fond of them.

The Kitchn is a beautiful website as well, I've had a ton of fun on it.

I've been thinking a lot about how to outfit my house.. It seems like I am so in love with different decor and styles that I end up wanting ALL the things. But this may also be a perfect opportunity for me to create some separation of space via different decor in different aspects of the house.

My bedding area a bit bohemian and inviting with different cloths and hangings along the wall.. Something very comforting and inviting.

My desk could transition the bohemian influence with some steam-punk accessories like a gothic lamp.

My kitchen something hedgewitch like.. bottles hanging everywhere, herbs drying, a cauldron maybe.

My living room very japanese-influenced, with the kotatsu coffee table, some paper lanterns for the lighting, and such things as I've collected over the years.

The ceiling of my entire house is going to be a hanging array of decor--a few small trinkets to break it up, and a couple edison chandeliers and hanging hand-blown glass balls that I can collect over time. Something to make the ceiling more interesting and draw the eye up--and hopefully make the place seem bigger and taller than it is, though in truth it will be quite tall.

The bathroom something very modern, with clean lines and comfort coming mainly from soft-looking linen tile.

The porch area will be more heavily decorated than the rest of the house--I'd like an inviting, unique place to sit outside and enjoy..

Project Idea #1: Make-up magnets.
- Step 1. Glue magnets to the back of make up.
- Step 2. Stick them to something magnetic, like the back of a medicine cabinet door.

Project Idea #2: Window box glass bottle garden.
- Step 1: Stick some white christmas lights in the bottom of the box.
- Step 2: Arrange funky colored and shaped bottles in the box.

Project Idea #3: Hanging herb bottles.
- Step 1: Buy a bunch of test-tube like bottles.
- Step 2: Label them with cool labels.
- Step 3: Create a way to hang them below the cabinets so they're hanging all over the place at different heights.

Project Idea #4: Funky curtains.
- Step 1: Sew fabrics I own to make things fit.
- Step 2: Hang curtain rods in places they will go.

Project Idea #5: T-shirt bean bag chair.
- Step 1: Gather lots of t-shirts.
- Step 2: Follow instructions.

Cheap play-ball pit: Buy a swimming pool with a cover on sale after summer season. If not used as a pool, fill with play balls.

I've been browsing your blog with interest. 2 yrs ago I decided to build my own tiny home. Mine will be 36sqm (about the size of the small 1 bedroom apartment I currently live in) so its not truly tiny when compared to the Tumbleweeds which are miniscule. But nevertheless I was inspired to do so when I realised how generous a space my current apartment is for my needs. My goal is to build 100% mortage free and use eco building methods.

I also plan to self build (minus foundation, plumbiing and wiring). I am building a cob yurt with loft bed and open plan below. Many people have built such structures for less than $10k so my more generous budget should allow for nicer finishing touches. I love the organic look and feel of cob. Already built a cob wwodfired oven as a test project.

I love all your inspirations and influences and feel you are going to build something very special. Go the tiny house movement which I think is really getting back to our ancient roots of handbuilding homes for shelter rather than austentatious displays of wealth. Just encouragement really.

36 sqm is still quite small--and a cob yurt is going to be absolutely charming! There's something magical about a funky structure being called home.. There's nothing like it. I don't care about things like real estate, resale value, blahblahblah.. You know who else didn't care about those sort of things? The Winchester lady, the people along the avenues of New Orleans, and many other famous funky buildings that people tour and go out of their way to see themselves. It is the creative and the inspired they hunger for--and I think those things should be in homes too. Maybe people wouldn't want to move away so much if everything didn't look the same everywhere you went.

Your plans sounds quite solid, and a yurt is an amazing design. (I seriously wish my current plans didn't run my bill considerably cheaper, I would have loved a funky yurt or dome home to live in.. they were on the chopping block for a while as number one options--almost to the point of decision until the numbers were ran harder. I had to decide how I could squeeze in my funky--but I think I've got a good plan here and I'll be quite content with it for the next few years.)

Will you be installing solar and/or wind energy, water collection and purification, and other such things? My goal is, within 5 years, to have the house running itself 80% of the time (with droughts frequent in Texas, it is difficult to say 100%) with no payments outside of an occasional water bill and yearly property taxes.

Keep your spirits up about it and let me know how it is coming along for sure I love to read about people's stories on tinyhouseblog.com. I feed off of that site like a leech.

While budget was not my primary constraint I am a compulsive bargain hunter and so my objective is to build what I desire in clever ways that ultimately meet certain objectives. Mortgage free is one. My over-riding principles are...

Circular form. I just love it, desire it and find it somehow satisfying. Its unusual and I'm always a bit contrary. Practicality can be sacrificed on the altar of my worhip of the round.
High thermal mass walls. Every ancient building I've ever loved has had thick solid walls. Its psychological and thats why I hate modern building methods, hollow thin walls....just no.
Sacrifice size for craftsmanship. I'm a trained silversmith and hobby artist, i spend my time handcrafting exquisite little things. My home should reflect this.
Reduce maintenance over the long term as much as possible. So build using the best and most enduring materials, build smart, build once, have it stand for centuries.

I'm really inspired by Frank Lloyd Wrights praire house interiors. Not only were they born of the art nouveau movement (a rejection of mass manufactured uselessness, style over function) but his ability to make something simple, functional yet amazingly beautiful inspires me.

I had heard the name briefly before, and now Im on a search of pictures inspired by him Your goals are absolutely amazing, it'll make a terrific house! So make sure you take lots of pictures of the progress.

They're so romantic.. I'd like to go stay in one for the sake of getting a feel for them sometime. The pictures of them all glowing a soft white hue in the snow..
