I’ve read that e5 types are very independent. On the other hand, they skew sp. I know someone that I think is an e5 and I was thinking of getting them some cozy clothing for the winter or a gift card for cozy clothing (like thermal stuff).

Would this potentially offend the e5 and their independence? Could I be seen as potentially manipulative? Would such a gift be seen as too personal?

I don’t know him tremendously well but would like to. I’m worried about him walking around in the winter, though I know he can fend for himself.

I can't speak for other E5's, but I appreciate gifts with utility over clutter. Or consumables, like a coffee gift card.

Generally, a gift card (either geared toward coffee or warm clothing) would be preferable to someone directly selecting something for me to wear. I can't say that's a universal E5 thing, though.

If I received a gift from someone who never gave me a gift, I'd be very flattered. I'm not sure that it matters that much what it would be.

Once a woman gave me a Halloween card at work. I liked that. I should have probably used that to talk to her more.

It’s funny that you and Julius are e5s. For some reason I hadn’t made that connection. Now, thinking about you and your school experiences, it makes sense to me

Plus knowing you and Julius, I see how NOT cold in personality e5s can be. The e5 I’ve met is slightly aloof, shy but can be kind of child-like and sweet. He can also be sarcastic/opinionated.

Thank you. I’m thinking of getting him a very unsexy thermal undershirt and a gift card. Reason is that you always need a warm shirt and he can wear it right away. He does a lot of sitting around and I fear he gets cold even indoors.

The coffee sounds like a great option too. :)

I would particularly love thermal clothing/long underwear.

Actually, I just remembered that she was one of the people who worked under my ex. I could not have gotten together even if she was interested. I explicitly promised I wouldn't do anything like that. Apparently, those are the rules. Anyway, that wasn't a case of not pursuing something but rather not really being able to pursue something. That makes me feel better.

Coffee is good, as long as it's a flavor and brand that is liked. (Get a feel for what they already like and buy.)
Sometimes e5s can hone their selections so well they can get stuck in a rut of wanting particular items.
I still have coffee from a few years back that I should throw out, because it was brands that I didn't drink and didn't like as much as my normal selections.

Since I am 5w4, I find I flip between utility and something personal that tells me the other person recognizes something unique about me. It means so much when I get a gift that means that the other person was actually listening to me talk and/or knew enough details about me to pick something that isn't faceless.

But both are driven by details rather than convention.
Getting something that shows you were paying attention to what they say/do means something, whether utility or individually oriented.

That being said, I like dumb utility stuff like fuzzy socks lol.

I love the fact that I truly like all three of you e5s. It’s reassuring that I’m drawn your type. I didn’t realize that you also type as one.

I believe I understand the thought process in what you write, above. :) I have noticed this e5 gets the same snacks all the time, ha.

Btw I gotta plug Uniqlo Heat Tech garb. They are so warm and last eons.

I’ve been listening to podcasts about e5’s.

Do you ever dislike gifts in general bc you’d feel obligated to the other person somehow, in terms of your future time? There was mention of a ‘fear of abundance’. Could you see a gift as an attempt at manipulation?

I’m sure it must vary, how sensitive each e5 is with obligations and relationships.

I'm e5 and often dislike gifts, not because of the expectation that I reciprocate, but because the gift is poorly chosen and useless to me.

I might have had some feelings like that when I was in my early adulthood, without much relationship experience, where I felt a lot of obligation when given things and I was thus forced to offer recompense even if I had never requested or expected those gifts and didn't even need them.

I don't really feel that way now.
To be honest, in a world where I can often feel alone, I appreciate signs that someone is considering me.

Hello @Coriolis I’m never been into gift giving. Many times I will receive gifts that I don’t really care for. It’s just materialism too me.

I’m always cognizant that all the materialistic gifts had to come originally from our environment and natural world. Thus the raping of Mother Earth to help fuel a materialistic world.

I also witness the phenomenon of people renting out public storage spaces. How much is enough, finally enough?

My best gift is from a person who had legally a star named after me. So in the the star charts there is catalogued a star named LightSun and it is in the Phoenix nebula.

This took great thought and I will always find it as special. My second best gift of all time is when my wife wrote a letter and poem to me on my birthday.

I shall always treasure the letter and the star named in my honor over any superficial gifts of diamonds, jewelry, or any other material good.

I like the letter and poem. I have received drawings and even recorded songs as gifts on occasion. They are indeed the best gifts.

A Friend wrote, “It’s a part of oneself given to another to carry through life.”

“Precisely, my two most precious gifts were not just mass produced material goods. It was specifically very precious and well thought out.

It was a gift from a Soul to another Soul. That’s why it is so very truly special.” LightSun
