That is also evidently a factor. But in my book having artificial and expandable troops is still much bigger part of the cake. Since AI means that you don't need even the pilot at home (what is evidently a limiting factor in the terms of numbers). What in the end means that all of this is basically complete remake of the concept of war.

Back in the 90s there was a strategy game based on the concept that all of this goes completely wrong. Since weapon systems that can function without humans basically lead to endless war.

I mean if it isn't obvious: in that video game there is not a single human. Just self replicating machines of all shapes and sizes that are fighting each other across the galaxy.

It is kinda funny game: wind energy, solar energy, nuclear energy, self replicating war machines, war for ore in order to make more machines .... sounds awkwardly familiar.
