Hi all, I’ve always been rather skeptical of the MBTI percentages that I see online. So a friend and I took a survey over the course of 9 months with a sum of 638 participants, and I figured I’d share the results.
The survey also included Enneagram Type, which I will posted at a later date.
The participants consisted of Students at my school (New Jersey) & my friend’s school (Florida), as well as other various people from day to day life.
These statistics were used as a comparison to see how rare types are portrayed online: Myers Briggs Statistics – Statistic Brain
Here are the results (rounded):
Dominant Perceiving types:
Sensing Dominants:
ESTP - 13% (Significantly more common among men)
ESFP - 9% (Equally common among genders)
ISTJ - 8% (More common among men)
ISFJ - 10% (Significantly more common among women)
Total Dominant Sensors: 40%
Intuitive Dominants:
ENTP - 3% (More common among men)
ENFP - 4% (Equally common among genders)
INTJ - 3% (Slightly more common among men)
INFJ - 2% (More common among women)
Total Dominant Intuitives: 12%
Total Dominant Perceivers: 52%
Dominant Judging types:
Thinking Dominants:
ESTJ - 9% (More common among men)
ENTJ - 1% (Equally common among genders)
ISTP - 5% (Significantly more common among men)
INTP - 2% (More common among men)
Total Dominant Thinkers: 17%
Feeling Dominants:
ESFJ - 11% (More common among women)
ENFJ - 5% (More common among women)
ISFP - 8% (Significantly more common among women)
INFP - 7% (Slightly more common among women)
Total Dominant Feelers: 31%
Total Dominant Judgers: 48%
Notes & Other Findings:
- ESTP (Significantly), INTJ, INFJ, ENFJ, & INFP were more common than portrayed online
- ISTJ, ISFJ, ENFP, ENTJ, INTP, ESFJ, and ISFP were rarer than portrayed online
- ESFP, ENTP, ESTJ, and ISTP were about equal to what is portrayed online
- The most common type was ESTP, followed by ESFJ and then ISFJ
- The rarest type was ENTJ, followed by INTP and INFJ
- The most common temperament was EP
- The rarest temperament was a near tie between IJ (23%) and IP (22%)
- The most common grouping was SJ
- The rarest grouping was NT
- The most common mistype was ISFP as INFP, followed by ESFx as ENFx
- Extraverts were more common than Introverts by 5%
- Sensors were more common than Intuitives by 27%
- Feelers were more common than Thinkers by 6%
- External Perceivers were more common than External Judgers by 1%
