So I completed the training with the Audubon society and am now officially a docent on the wetlands. I am also halfway through with my wildlife and forestry conservation course. I have tentative plans to actually move to Monterey to do an Associates in Forestry, because it's warmer than Eureka but still close to Big Sur, enough so to go there regularly. Plus I have considered the possibility that if I decided to do a B.S. instead I could transfer from the Forestry program and also take my credits from university (I have over 90 credit hours in West Virginia,) and go up to Humboldt county then if I decided to get even more education.

I am thinking of saving up and moving to Monterey next summer, spending a lot of time in Big Sur, and then starting the Forestry program in the fall semester.

There are very limited prospects here closer to L.A. for the field I want to go in. There isn't even a full time ranger on the wetlands where I volunteer, and I am considering camping in a state park in Orange county that I visited this morning with some of the Audubon crew, and talking to them there, but this is not the place. I do love L.A. but I don't know what direction my life would take if I don't attempt to pursue forestry, of course I could always come back after I finish my Associates if there were good reason to.

That's my tentative plan.

Go north. :newwink:

I enjoyed this post because all of the options sound like so much fun! :happy2:

I've found that it's much easier to keep going on education once I've started. Is that your experience?

If I can get the job I want with an associates in Forestry, I see no reason to spend any more time in academia than I have to. I love learning, I don't love academia.

I may end up going to Humboldt county anyway, because they actually probably have a better program.

Either way I feel pretty good about the progress I have made.
