The thing I find most unsettling is that Pence seems to be onboard Operation Refuse To Leave. He refused to commit to a peaceful transition, and apparently doesn't believe current polls. "I know in my heart Trump will win this election." And unlike Trump, he's actually confabulated a (still pure bullshit, but calm and less moronic/hysterical bullshit) reason that supporters who still believe Russian interference is/was a "hoax" will likely latch onto and regurgitate endlessly as their own talking point about it. Even though it's 100% fantasy. The impeachment was never about "undoing the election."

Pence speaks like a very polite person very serenely threatening someone.

How delightful...

The prosecutor in the Jack Wohl case says Wohl and Burkman showed up to their arraignment with a film crew and a stack of $100 bills, to flourish when they paid their bail. Now the prosecutor wants a $1 million bail.

It's just so hard for me to determine what is outright dissembling from someone who isn't a mental turnip versus actual fervent belief and/or living in a vacuum chamber so that he sincerely believes this from a rational perspective.

I mean, it's not something I didn't run across before from dealing with so many evangelical style thinkers, but it always boggled my mind. I still don't get how he can possibly, sincerely justify these kinds of beliefs... but if he's a conscious liar, he's far worse morally than anything I imagined.

Pence speaks like a very polite person very serenely threatening someone.

It's that evangelical veneer -- if you speak and act with a respectful tone, that somehow justifies the content and renders it unassailable.

ah the polite evangelist. I recall these fellers and fellettes at my oooold church, the types of people who will politely tell you they'd put a bullet in every illegal immigrant's brain if they had a choice. I'm not making this up. Their whole attitude is that they don't actually have to live Christlike, so long as they have faith in Christ. They literally say this, more or less, that faith always trumps good deeds and kindness.

There's nothing more evil. The same type of people as the German Catholics who sat by while hitler rounded up their countrymen and countrywomen. If there's a god and they welcome these types of people into heaven, I'd rather live in hell with the decent people.

EXACTLY! This is THE reason it pisses me off when people, call for civility. Because they're getting so much civility from the religious right and conservatives. It's the reason I can't grasp why more people didn't go with Bernie - he would have fought for regular people but they bitched that he was too loud and not kind.

He dared to be critical of the system.

In defense of German Ccatholics: Protestants were more likely to be ardent nazis than Catholics. The Protestant churches in Germany were divided while the Catholic church was less than heroic but more distanced than their Protestant counterparts.

Are people allowed to write a check for bail?

Realclearpolitics "No Tossups" Electoral College Map Comparison. The idea that in 2016 Hillary was a "lock" according to the pollsters/pundits does not seem apparent based on the map below. This year seems somehow different than 4 years ago....

That makes no sense to me. If you're in jail, how does one obtain that?

Cash bail should be abolished so it makes no sense to me either. Those dipshits shouldn't get bail anyway.

Biden and Trump say they won’t attend the next debate

However, after the Commission for Presidential Debates announced the second debate would be held virtually, Trump said he no longer wanted to participate, arguing, “That’s not what debating’s all about; you sit behind a computer and do a debate, it’s ridiculous. And then they cut you off whenever they want.”

"Whenever they want". Like it's random, and not according to a balanced (and traditionally effective, if people respect it) order worked out to be fair for everyone.

It's like their nebulous and unspoken platform is, "Unfettered entitlement for us, law and order for everyone else." And it's really energizing his base, which makes me think less of the whole human race.

Debating to Trump is:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

While the other guy is trying to talk.

I've heard now that they will have in-person debates on Oct 22 and Oct 29 instead.

But if that is true, it shows another way in which Trump shoots himself in both feet. his quick twitter and talking without planning impulses used to favor him; now they are killing him. What I've seen is that a story will break immediately, then he'll recalibrate or veer in a different direction, but the first story is just getting out and now being propagated by all of his opponents and still ends up dominating.

Case in point, if he did reverse course before 1pm today, the post about him ditching the debates was still posted 2 hours later.

Meanwhile, on Monday he went on a spree canceling all talks about relief payments until after the election -- and by the time he reversed course some hours later (because I guess he was convinced he made a dumb move and/or wanted to take credit for SOMETHING positive), the old story was running super-strong and still propagating. At best, he was just seeming manic and/or out of control.

His thoughtless, kneejerk comments are no longer making positive ground for him, it's dominating as negative news that overrides any later more positive twists he tries to make.
