Rick’s grandson is good-natured and kind-hearted but easily experiences anxiety and stress. Although Rick’s nearly godlike technological abilities always get him and his grandson out of even the most perilous situations, Morty nevertheless often feels scared and distressed when something goes wrong, even where others would rationally have inferred that Grandpa Rick will always find a way out. Morty’s anxiety is not a specific phobia but a generalized condition, further exacerbated by his persistent self-esteem issues. Although he is actually quite resourceful, witty, and friendly, he hardly ever acknowledges these qualities in himself.

Birdperson (Schizoid)

A life-long friend of Rick, Birdperson (later known as Phoenixperson) displays little emotion, whether on the positive or the negative side.

To him, the highs don’t get too high and the lows don’t get too low. His lack of emotional depth is evidenced by his flat facial expression, his robotic bodily movement, and his monotonous voice. Even during his wedding to Tammy, he appears to be indifferent and emotionless.

It is often said that people with schizoid tendencies have no interest in forming friendships or romantic relationships, although it is perhaps more accurate to say that it is not the relationships themselves that these people are uncomfortable with but rather the demand for intimacy that accompanies them.

Indeed, the fact that Birdperson never picked up that Tammy had faked her feelings for him as part of a conspiracy against him, coupled with the fact that Birdperson has no known close friends other than Rick, suggests Birdperson may have a schizoid personality style.
