Where is the politiscales.net site now?
Magic Sponge! I could have sworn I saw a post where you said you were leaving. I'm glad you're still around!
I don't remember exactly where I landed before, but I just took the quiz again:

side note *gasp* someone calls him a magic sponge too.
I'm glad you decided to poke your head back in here.Because I did, like a year and a half or two years ago. Only decided to poke my head in here a couple weeks earlier. Only vaguely around.
Somewhat surprised to see you myself. I don't think you were active here when I left, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Well, I am a magic poriferan, not a science cnidarian.
We closed the Politics subforum altogether several years ago because the vitriol, baiting, and personal attacks were crowding out any semblance of substantive discussion. I don't know what your definition of "tame" is, but that subforum has remained calmer since its reopening, even during the recent contentious election process. We intend for it to stay that way. There is no opinion that cannot be expressed with civility and respect.I'm glad you decided to poke your head back in here.
Aside from a brief period around 2013/2014, I haven't been active in about 10 years. Very few people I used to know are active anymore, so I get excited whenever I see one. Expect to see me around more often, at least while this pandemic going on. The political board seems really tame. I'm quite a bit softer than I used to be, but I'm thinking about livening things up. All in good fun, of course!![]()
Good to see you Coriolis! I wasn't around when the subforum was shut down, but I'm well aware that I contributed to the vitriol back in the day. I'm softer these days, but still a contrarian. We closed the Politics subforum altogether several years ago because the vitriol, baiting, and personal attacks were crowding out any semblance of substantive discussion. Oh, and welcome back.

I haven't seen much of a diversity of opinion, very little disagreement. It's sort of like a monoculture. Maybe that's because the election and the pandemic dominate the news? I guess I'll find out at some point.
Yes, COVID and the US election have been dominant topics, though there is considerable diversity of opinion on both of these. It is quite possible to be contrarian without being obnoxious. You still may not convince others, but you are much more likely to get them to consider your position seriously and at least learn from it. This article by Cindy McCain and Heidi Heitcamp says it well.Good to see you Coriolis! We can draw inspiration from President Abraham Lincoln's famous call for "malice toward none; with charity for all; ... to do all which may achieve and cherish a just, and lasting peace, among ourselves" as we strive to connect with each other. Effectively reaching out to and listening to people who disagree is not as far-fetched as it may sound. In a study conducted last year—dubbed "America in One Room"—researchers assembled representative voters for four days and asked them to simply talk politely to each other about politics. While minds were not changed overnight, participants felt warmer toward those on the other side, seeing them as friends with whom they happen to disagree.
