Youngest son is, IMO, being given too much busy work homework. The math is challenging and mostly not busy work, the science seems reasonable. The spelling, OTOH, five easy words to be written eight times each in manuscript and six times each in cursive.

He receives occupational therapy for the fine motor skills and his IEP specifies the use of a keyboard for longish written assignments. I'm probably being impatient since this is just the second week of school, but he didn't get done with his homework until after six PM.

I hope I don't have to go to heroic measures all over again at this school. :sadbanana:

I also don't like how far away the bus stop is. It's only two and a half blocks, but that is going to suck when it gets cold. I really, really hate the cold, so I'm being very selfish and not even a good mom.

He is entitled to ride the special education bus, but that seems a little extreme.

We need a second car but just can't afford one, so I will be getting up at 4AM in the dead of winter again so I can at least have him wait for the bus in the warm van. I'm feeling sorry for myself already.

In the effort to cut expenses, I've been trying to keep close track of our bills. I've cut way back on my cell phone use because I had begun using rollover minutes and knew it was only a matter of time until they ran out and I went over.

About a year and a half ago, I added my step-dad to our plan so he could call my brother and so he would have a number when he looked for a job. He calls my brother maybe a couple of times a month and has told me he has given up the idea of looking for a job.

I told him that we are trying to watch our budget and asked him to try to keep the cell phone use down. He told me okay, but that he really doesn't use the phone that much. I explained to him that calling voicemail uses minutes.

He is using more daytime minutes than the other four lines put together and two of those lines are teenage girls. I haven't noticed a significant change in his usage and he is still calling voicemail multiple times a day, during daytime hours.

I am really resenting this. I guess I feel like if anybody gets to run up the phone bill it should be me. I'd like to be able to talk to Jen while I'm out once in awhile, but I can't because this overgrown adolescent is using the phone time.

I'm about to get the darn thing turned off and just pay for the line until the contract expires at the end of December. Yes. I'm PMSing. I know.

On a more positive note, my older son seems to be making a seamless transition into middle school, including being able to open his locker. The autism doesn't seem to be slowing him down much at all. I feel a lot of admiration for him. He's amazing.
