I was just thinking yesterday about who's running for office locally.
I went to my state board of elections and got a sample ballot. I recognize some names.
I was just alerted that I need to be careful when selecting Judges. Evidently in my state they don't get elected they're just voted for continuance in office. I'm not even sure how they get in office or who puts them there. Judges only affect a subset of people (those involved in the court system) so most people don't need to know.
I don't know what these local constitutional amendments and charter required referendums are either. Sigh, this can be so overwhelming, it's like just standing in a messy room and not having any idea of where to start.
I have no clue who these people are. I looked on the local newspaper to get a summary of who they are and most of them barely have bios up.
My parents have been asking me to go to their local civics association meeting because of all the stale oldheads who don't want any to change. Trying to figure out what will get people motivated to change is difficult. Especially when you're dealing with a population that is suspicious of the government to begin with. Very much a Them vs. Us mentality that needs to be overcome.
