It's a good thing I've been blogging because the unhappy experiences at my father's house might have made me chalk off this entire season to the BAD column. But you know what?! For the most part, I had a great Christmas! And now that the trauma has faded and I read my posts and remind myself of the neat experiences I've had this December, I am deciding - for the first time ever in my life, mind you - to NOT throw out the baby with the bath water, and say, I had a pretty awesome December and Christmas season, and NO ONE can steal that from me!

Did I tell you I saw Jim Cole in concert!! :static: I was absolutely beside myself with awe. I had to try so hard to not act like a fan-tard when I asked him to autograph his CD. I was looking through my wallet yesterday and saw the ticket stub. I was on Cloud Nine for two days after that concert! No one can take that away!

The lunch with my 5th grade teacher, the calls from Uncle John, being pretty successful buying presents people liked. I had a pretty awesome Christmas.

On Christmas Eve day, a friend of my daughter's came to visit for a couple of hours. It was nice to get to know him. We had LOBSTER for dinner. Now THERE'S a tradition to continue! Later in the evening, a friend of my son's came over and visited with us. I liked it. I enjoyed having visitors. I wish we would have stayed home and enjoyed more of it. The kids opened one present... then we drove to my father's. It was pretty late by then - about 7 PM, so really for the most part, it was a great day. Around midnight we drove back home.

Christmas morning we had our traditional waffles, strawberries and whipped cream, and exchanged presents. W
e watched the Little Drummer Boy.

Then we headed back to my father's house for a turkey lunch. What a madhouse. My brother-in-law and one niece were extremely ill. My sister had a co-dependent breakdown that I just stayed right OUT of, and we went home at a pretty decent hour. So yeah. Except for the time spent at my father's house, the rest of December was great! So great in fact, that the dysfunction that occurred there fades in importance, though of course, at the very moment I was living it, it was torture. If my husband keeps his promise, we won't be going there Christmas Eve next year. :static: I'm already making plans for Christmas Eve in our own home with our own friends.
