I'm both exhilarated and melancholy, sad and relieved, overjoyed and dismayed. Sorry and glad. It's difficult to explain, and I am not sure I should or even could try.
I randomly turned the tv on a moment, ago, and Conan the Barbarian (prior to being in charge of California) was pronouncing his famous quote on what is good in life :
"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."
The timing was strangely apt, as for some reason, the aspiration of the barbarian ideal - that simple anti-cultural desire for personal strength and freedom from society, like an atheist anti-christ, appeals to me today.
