So you want somebody like Butiigieg who would probably get as much done as Obama (which I don't consider to be enough, and it would all get undone by the next administration, anyway). I'd vote for him in a general (hell, I'd even vote for Biden in the general), but I think he's too much in the Obama mold (and I never really bought into him, either).
Bernie is someone who I think would know what to do with the opportunity he is given. He definitely would not get to do all of it, but I think he might be able to get enough done to make a long-needed long-lasting change in American politics. It's Change I Can Actually Believe In.
Obama missed so many opportunities during the first two years when he had control of Congress (like, for instance, getting ANY type of climate change legislation passed). I fear Buttigieg would do the same.
I'd like to be proven wrong on Buttigieg, but that's just my impression. I think he could win the general, though.
I would hope that both Bernie and Buttigieg learned something from Obama's domestic failures and foreign-policy abuses. In fairness, though, the transformation of the GOP from a political party into a mere propaganda network was not yet complete when Obama tried working across the aisle early on.
What I fear in Bernie's case is that he is impractical, his ideas being dreams instead of policy plans, and that given his lack of clout within the Democratic party, he would lack the internal support a president needs to set and deliver a workable agenda. Bernie has been in the Senate for 13 years, but he has hardly any friends there. That may be a sign of integrity for man working in Washington, but it poses problems for a politician in need of coalitions. Bernie, I am afraid, is not a smooth talker or a clever tactician. Buttigieg is very different.
Obviously, I may be wrong in that assessment, and if Bernie wins, I certainly I hope I am. But there are reasons the party establishment does not like him, and not all of them are concerned with his disdain for K street.
Lastly, while lies and hatred from Fox News are inevitable for any Democratic president, I fear Bernie will make it easier than just about anybody (except, perhaps, Warren) for them to invent a new demon and give their herds a new fake enemy to fight.
Banning cows, banning fossil fuels, national $15 minimum wage, open borders, Medicare for all (including illegal immigrants)
Only three out of five are lies. Are you okay, Tellenbach?
