I read the entire book series twice and I loved it. However, I couldn't notice how the books avoided controversial topics like homosexuality and sexism. I'd be surprised if I heard messages in the story like," Don't cry like a girl." I understood what what kind of message the author was trying to convey. The book was so far into the future that all of those things didn't matter. However, for some reason, I had a hard time imaging the author's vision of the future. I don't think I can imagine a society whereas gender bias didn't exist or homosexuality wasn't a big deal for a person. I think the reason why the author didn't include controversial topics because those things were unimportant to the story.
