The Elon Musk cult is about a half rung below the Trump variety - any criticism of Elon Musk has to be bad faith, motivated by jealousy. lol why the most ordinary working person would cheerlead for the super rich is beyond me.

he's basically just a 21st century Thomas Edison. A bsuinessman who employs scientists to make him money. Which is funny that he had the gall to call his cars Teslas.

Its like he's trolling history.

I think he is really full of himself and actually envisions himself as some Tesla like visionary. I’ll give him credit as a shrewd businessman but I would hardly consider him a visionary or even an inventor.

Nothing he has done is really new. Electric cars have been around long before he had the means to build them. Space travel is nothing new, he’s just trying to commercialize it more. He’s maybe a Weyland but I don’t even know if I’d go that far.

He certainly gets off on hearing himself talk and spouting “out there” ideas that any slightly gifted 13 year old has already considered, if his interview with Rogan is any indication.

He's a John Hammond without dinosaurs.

I'm embarrassed to say that for a time I did like him a little for embodying an optimistic futurism, but thankfully the pro-coup stuff cured me of that.

I appreciate him saying the quiet part loud and not pretending he gives a shit. Because no matter what, philanthrocapitalism has one goal - the transfer of responsibility for public goods and services from democratic institutions to the wealthy, to be administered by an executive class. It is about how philanthropy can be used to reinforce a politico-economic system that enables such a small number of people to accumulate obscene amounts of wealth. That's why anyone who is a working person that cheerleads for the ultra rich are not only dumb but are part of the fucking problem.

For anyone not knowing why Elon Musk is a total ball lick, here's a couple examples...

A billionaire named Ken Griffin has his name all over mile markers on the lakefront trail, and guess what else he did? Spend a shitload of money to defeat a ballot referendum that would have meant his taxes would have been raised.

Post Cold War liberals (as in European liberals) forgot what Post WW1 and WW2 liberals like Isaiah Berlin learned the hard way:

Both liberty and equality are among the primary goals pursued by human beings through many centuries; but total liberty for wolves is death to the lambs, total liberty of the powerful, the gifted, is not compatible with the rights to a decent existence of the weak and the less gifted...Equality may demand the restraint of the liberty of those who wish to dominate; liberty -- without some modicum of which there is no choice and therefore no possibility of remaining human as we understand the word -- may have to be curtailed in order to make room for social welfare, to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to shelter the homeless, to leave room for the liberty of others, to allow justice or fairness to be exercised. The Pursuit of the Ideal, Isaiah Berlin.

While I agree, as a European, I am a bit puzzled by the term "European liberals" because what Berlin describes here, to me, is a more European than American sentiment.

Over here hardcore freemarket liberalism is perceived as an American fashion that has invaded Europe and is threatening social accomplishments that had to be worked for and worked hard.

That being said, Happy (International) Labour Day!
