Why only $2.5 in Brazil? That is weird...

Well, I guess that as the production costs are about 7 Dollars they can make it 2,50 in some and 20 in others to come out just fine on the other end. Brazil as an emerging economy is a weird case, I guess, with both very rich and very poor people. If your basic idea is getting as many people vaccinated as possible in a country this badly hit by the pandemic you have to be able to reach the poor people as well, so it makes sense to base the price on them rather than on the better off parts of society. You want to cover a many as possible of those 211 million people.

I know the logic, I am surprised that somebody somewhere were willing to do it. Completely fair, but action like this aren't really normal here.

Well, in addition to humanitarian reasons there is also a strong economic and strategic interest in other countries not going down the drain as Germany is very export dependent.

This might sound off-topic at first but your surprise reminds me of a little culture clash I recently witnessed. I am an interpreter and as such was hired to attend two business meetings between a German famly owned manufacturer of very precise highend automotive parts and a Chinese and a French potential buyer of that company. The German company was doing very well but the management was looking to sell the business as the owners (the founders children who had grown up with the business but never gone to university) were looking forward to retirement and their kids weren't interested in managing the company. They saw a lot of potential for growth but lacked the business knowhow for greater international expansion. They were looking for loving hands to take care of their company and its employees upon whom they looked like a family just as you would want to give a litter of kittens into loving hands. They cared a lot about their employees being well taken care off after they were gone.
The Chinese asked them a few questions, many of which were focusing on human relations and relations to customers like Would you still be available for a transition period? Do you have any employees who might want to assent to management? The French (sleek businessmen in suits) got very hooked up on numbers and seemed puzzled. Why don't you just fire some employees in order to lower costs so that you can lower prices and secure more orders? Why do you only take orders with a high profit margin and voluntarily refuse customers not willing to pay premium prices for premium products? Why don't you just produce junk and sell lots of it instead of producing quality and selling little of it? Why do you only buy new machines when you need them instead of just buying them and then trying to get more orders to use them at full capacity? The German manager (a bluecollar looking engineer, even though he probably was a millionaire) looked at the French guy, rubbed his belly and said: "Because I am full, vhen I haff eaten I am no longer hungry. Vhy should I keep eating?". The French guy seemed completely perplexed by that answer.

They can't even COVID test for free
Wow, I can't find the words to articulate how messed up that is.

Thank you for explaining, I find America's pay-to-play health care system highly unethical.

I do wonder if anyone not from the USA is also cautious about taking a vaccine?

Here's what the hospitals and nursing homes I service do....

COVID test once a week, sometimes more if there is an outbreak...
Bill employees insurance companies
Insurance rejects this claim
Kick it back to the employee to pay. Employee refuses and the union steps in.
Eventually pay it with the CARES ACT money the facility has already been given expressly to cover COVID testing after being told (again) they have CARES money to pay it. Repeat.

For those skeptical of the relatively new mRNA vaccine technology: AstraZeneca's vaccine is a traditional vector vaccine. So both technologies wiil be available.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer, I dont know if there will be enough of the anti-vaxxers to ruin it for everyone but I hope there will not be.

You can get tested for free.

Also Nursing homes are shit, not the government. They are notorious for abusing and straling the money of residents. Its no surprise they fucked up on Covid too.

Hard to weigh the pros and cons of food delivery when food provisions help the needy, while the needy also tend to be vulnerable.

At the end of the day, money is money and I admire anyone who chooses to be a servant during these times.

It seems that the Belgian secretary for consumer protection accidentally tweeted the (sort of secret) prices for the various vaccines.

Moderna is the most expensive at 18 Dollars per dosis. Johnson & Johnson will charge 8.50 Dollars. Biontech /Pfizer costs 12 Euros. Curevac will charge 10 Euros. Sanofi will charge 7.56 Euros but not be ready before the end of next year due to dosage issues during the tests. AstraZeneca is the cheepest at 1.78 Euros per dosis.

i won't pay for it... fuck that... i would be resistant if it was framed as mandatory... if it was free and noncompulsory, i might be interested... i suspect i will be returning to the medical field soonish, so it may be requisite for that, in which case i would probably take my chances on it... i hated having to get the flu shot for work... i always had a cold "forever" afterwords, and i haven't had a flu for years... i like other vaccines for illnesses i think of as more personally threatening (my tetanus shot is current for example)... i do sort of worry about a batch being "cooked up" improperly due to haste... such things have happened in the past and will likely happen again at some future point...

It will be free and voluntary in Europe. Biden says it will be free and voluntary in America. I'd assume it will be free and voluntary in most places, only makes sense.

The vaccines underwent normal testing and review. There are several different ones to choose from. Side effects are normal and unless you work with vulnerable people nobody will force you to get the vaccine. In fact most people will have to wait until it is their turn. And for the next half year or year at least the problem will be shortage of supply, not someone forcing dangerous concoctions on people.

i didn't mean to appear to frame it as that... i also retracted the unlikely comment before you replied because i am still not sure how i feel about it... by the time i got to talking about medical work i realized if i would do it for an employer, i might do it just to do it... i do know i am in no rush to be first in line... the part about it being mandatory was merely theoretical and based upon the idea that there could be a push for compulsory administration of the vaccine in the future if participation doesn't hit a satisfactory level...

post script:

regardless of if it is planned to be free, i simply wouldn't pay for it if it wasn't... i just don't see this disease as a "likely" threat to me personally...

You'd be no longer a "likely" possible lethal threat to others if, say, you caught it, had no symptoms and unwittingly passed it on.
It's the same thing as with wearing masks. You do it a bit for yourself, but you mostly do it for everybody else.
