I feel like Kamala used the moment to uplift the girl moreso than anything. I guess maybe I am a sensitive woman who finds that to show such a deep level of empathy, for her to make it more about that young person being a future leader and creating something bright.

I noticed that. She easily could have turned Pence's reply back on him, observing that while he articulated a fine vision for how things should be, the Trump administration has consistently worked against that vision with their policies and their own horrible example, resulting in the state of affairs the student described. In other words, he was being a classic "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrite.
