Oh but I forget, these people actually use the terms "left" and "liberal" synonymously and unironically. They actually think these are the same things. Half the time you get in a discussion with them, you can't even get very far because you have to spend the entire time schooling them on basic concepts.

Just trying to understand what goes on in their heads, or what doesn't go on in their heads, why the lack of critical thinking and understanding of 9th grade level civics and politics escapes so many of them...

It was a vacuum chamber when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's in rural PA.

I never really learned what "left" or "democrats" or similar meant for another two decades, until after I left the area. There simply was very little exposure to outside ideas, civics teaching about the actual parties, and a large mistrust of urban areas and their "secularism" etc. I know the joke is "guns and god and military" but... honestly, those are the values I remember from my childhood, by people who otherwise seemed well-meaning. Not that the military and god doesn't haven't value, it is important in context; and guns are simply part of the fabric of that area, a lot of kids learn how to hunt early, and it's useful in rural farming regions. But those are core tenets... and also (local) community. Volunteer fire, church folks helping others in the community, and so on. If you're in the tribe, you will be looked after.

you kind of have to understand what it looks like from INSIDE, I think people from more urban or suburban backgrounds are looking at it more from outside.

Well this thread sure is an echo chamber.

How do I join in on this? Orange man bad! Am I doing this right?

You're welcome to contribute as a competing voice if you'd like.

I would caution you against assuming we're here echoing one another like a bunch of NPC's. "Orange man bad!" is a self-soothing trope of some Trump supporters that allows them to dismiss the concerns of the opposition, rather than engage with them directly. I hope that's not how you're using it here, though I could understand why you might need to, as the evidence against him is vast and compelling.

I browsed the last few pages of this thread. You speak of compelling evidence against him. I must have missed it.

What I didn't miss was how you selectively chose to identify my "orange man comment" as a trope while ignoring the plethora of anti-trump and trump-voter tropes in here.

No, I'm not assuming that you're "a bunch of npc's." I choose to believe in individual volition. Consider this a reminder that this thread does not represent the "Trump vs. Biden" topic, lest one comes to the inaccurate conclusion that either of those political viewpoints are well-represented here.

Again, you're welcome to contribute if you're a Trump supporter. I agree that this thread is not a representative sample. I would say it's pretty hard to find a venue where both Trump supporters and those who oppose him come together in balance and debate the issues fully, wouldn't you?

As to your concern about my selective response, you're right, and I've admitted as much. I tend to call out tropes used against my political position with greater frequency than those in favor of it, though I'm inclined to do the latter on occasion. Feel free to quote a trope you've observed and I'll provide comment, if you wish.

I don't like that Chris Wallace is a moderator; it's a mistake from Trump's camp to let this biased lefty be the moderator.

It's a mistake for anyone to watch this trainwreck of a debate. I can't do it.

There's at least a 20% chance that Biden will either start bleeding from the eyes, pisses on stage, or drops dead. People do enjoy watching trainwrecks.

Watching Hillary and Trump last time reminded me how dead any positive feelings I had were about this country as a whole were. It's like the gerontocracy of the last days of the Soviet Union.

Also, I kind of watched those against my will... it was sort of A Clockwork Orange type situation. You know, with the eyelid pincers.

This guy comes in and starts with that NPC orange man shit, then he wants to complain about an imbalanced discussion.

This is some golden entertainment

Does he have anything of value to contribute to this thread other than people are being too mean to Trump? I agree people are mean to him, but he routinely shits on me just by virtue of where I live in America's heartland so I don't particularly care. Apparently all the dudes with a crush on him can't seem to grasp that maybe that kind of thing is why so many people don't like him. I can't really stand coastal elitists.

Let's just say I see the funny in picking two senile dudes to run what is supposedly the bestest greatest country on earth.

I'm sure by and large, people in the last days of the Roman Empire mostly didn't recognize that's what they were, either.

Several post were moved to OTP for being trolling, combative, off topic, or part of the back and forth of that conversation. Any restarting of trollish shenanigans will result in threadbans.

Please use and enjoy the thread for it’s intended purpose.

It's amazing how difficult it is to find this. I only catch near misses here and there and they don't last long.

I've commented before (several times) that this thread - or anything in this forum - never really gets past co-mingling echo chamber. It would be enthralling if a Trump supporter capable of answering questions (instead of spraying deflection, insults, or manipulative ad hominums) were to start participating.

I believe the proper term for it is consumption.

I thought it was pleurisy, so I just looked it up. TB is consumption, and pleurisy is the more generic condition of being sick to the point of hardly being able to breathe.

While I appreciate the few who attempt to start dialogue with those of opposing views, I have had too many experiences on here where it becomes untenable to sustain a healthy dynamic. For sure, I knew my initial post would be just too difficult to resist for many, and many assumptions about me and my motives have been made in the process, but if it's that easy, then it's clear to me that the overall hostility in threads such as these is not something that can be overcome.

Case in point, aside from my previous demonstration:

"There's at least a 20% chance that Biden will either start bleeding from the eyes, pisses on stage, or drops dead."
Response: "So you two have something in common after all."

These quotes are taken from the last page. On top of this, both Biden and Trump are presented as senile by so many without further thought. It is depressing indeed. The end result is a divide between factions that only widens. Ironic that in the age of information, communication takes such a hit.

I checked before I posted to make sure I was right. You know, typical NPC behavior.
