Dummy Trump (2/26/2020): "The risk to the American people remains very low!"

The following retrospective study was published on February 09, 2020 after "data on 1,099 patients with laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV ARD" had been extracted "from 552 hospitals in 31 provinces/provincial municipalities through January 29th, 2020."

Clinical characteristics of 2019 novel coronavirus infection in China | medRxiv

The study published on February 09, 2020 found clearly, as follows:

"Conclusions: The 2019-nCoV epidemic spreads rapidly by human-to-human transmission. Normal radiologic findings are present among some patients with 2019-nCoV infection. "

***

"These findings echo the latest reports, including the outbreak of a family cluster,4 transmission from an asymptomatic patient,6 and the three-phase outbreak patterns.8 Our study cannot preclude the presence of patients who have been termed “super-spreaders.”"

(The entire article can be found republished in the New England Journal of Medicine.)

Trump was downplaying the Coronavirus in late February after 15 people in California had tested positive for COVID-19. On February 26, 2020, Trump claimed that the risk of infection for Americans was very low. (Click here: YouTube)

Over 10,000 positives later, Trump's lapdog Hannity put together a narrative that Trump's earlier downplays were the result of misinformation from a Chinese Cover-up.

However, by February 26, 2020, anybody with half-a-brain could "read the tea leaves" from the February 09, 2020 study that the risk of infection to more Americans was very high. Yet, by February 26, 2020, Dummy Trump was still claiming that the risk was very low and leaving the baton with empty-shell Mike Pence to keep an eye on things.

Bottom line: Total incompetence. If this does not go down in history as one of the great examples of presidential fuck ups, nothing the hell does.

Add it to the pile.

The level of incompetence here is very scary. The worst thing leaders can do is to downplay the threat of a once-in-a-hundred-years pandemic. And it's not just the US. It's everywhere, and it's completely mind-boggling. I don't know if it's the world's failure to understand exponential growth or a severe case of normalcy bias, or just plain arrogance that "it will not happen here".

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

February 28: “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, you know that, right? Coronavirus, they’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa.” “They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything. They tried it over and over. They’d been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning. They lost. It’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”

March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”

March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9: “This blindsided the world.”

Edit: March 9: "The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant.”

March 10: "It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."

March 13: National Emergency Declaration

March 13: “I don't take responsibility at all”

March 15: "TODAY IS A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!"

March 16: "I give myself a 10 out of 10"

This is decades of austerity and neoliberal policy creating an avalanche of ineffective, dangerous policy and and completely incompetent "leadership". There are still people living in their unaffected bubble - that's not going to last.

I was about 75% sure there would be tectonic change demanded by the majority of people in this country, I'm more like 98% today.

Lashing out at people you don't like isn't going to save you.

I like you just fine. But your feelings on the matter are just that. Feelings. Not indicative of how the president has acted irresponsibly in downplaying the issue. It’s led a lot of people who trust him to take inadequate precautions and he is directly responsible

Lashing out at people you don't like isn't going to save you.

Do you consider quoting Ben Shapiro to be "lashing out"?

I thought his response to your feelings was pretty spot on, actually. I hope you don't think I'm "lashing out".

In fairness to you, I assume your feelings are based on some observable facts. Perhaps in the spirit of cooperation you could share some of those with the group, so we can better understand where you're coming from.

Trump is doing a great job. CNN literally blasted him for closing the boarders calling him racist etc, but now even CNN is praising his actions for doing so.

Covid-19 is actually uniting the Right and Left somewhat (common enemy effect). Progressives and Trump supporters are actually getting along. Its the Democrats who voted against the stimulus package too.

He has streamlined everything to combat this, by suspending certain laws and enforcement. He employed the private sector to ramp up testing, and its going to be full blown soon. There is already drive through testing in my state.

Its gonna be a long 18 months.

In my quest for brevity I slacked on the clarity- I meant lashing out at Trump, per this entire thread's intention, by people here who would literally take any excuse imaginable already to do so. While it may one day be warranted, now is not the time, unless it is bundled with something constructive.

It was a very clever response from Officer Ed, which I enjoyed for it's objective wit. All the same, my "feeling" that he is doing a "good" job doesn't really take issue with any particular facts. You could cite his delay in acting as evidence of his doing a "bad" job, but I could shrug that off easy enough as understandable under the circumstances and instead praise the seriousness with which he is now taking it- the calming and measured daily press briefings, efforts at transparency and openness, and the extremely drastic economic shut-down measures. Point being- you could cite facts for him doing a bad job just as easily as I could cite facts for him doing a good job, all of which is a complete waste of time right now- but since time is in ample supply for everyone, that's just fine. :D

postscript: If we can't pull a Watchmen and come together as a nation against a common enemy here, we never will. This is an opportunity for some long bygone solidarity among human beings both of earth and of the US. Squandering it with the usual partisan bickering is infantile and idiotic. Unless it can have a direct and immediate impact, save the critiques for when the dust settles. Until then we should work together.

I'll be sure to cast my vote against Dummy Trump on election day...by February 09 the research clearly showed rapid transmission among asymptomatic patients. Period.

Yet by February 26th, Trump appears entirely out of touch with reality -- passing up leadership at a time of War to empty shelled Mike Pence and brushing off the risk to Americans as very low. He calls himself a "wartime president." I agree this is war, which begs the question wtf kind of wartime president responds to the enemy's declaration of war by ceding the reins over to a VP.

Three possibilities for Trump's willful omission of reality and complete breakdown in leadership ability: 1) Dummy Trump either didn't do his homework because he's incompetent; 2) dummy trump did his homework but chose to deny the findings without basis because, well, he's incompetent; or 3) dummy trump did his homework, chose to accept the findings and just outright lied to the American people. Either way you cut it, his instincts are horrible.

Trump's "chinavirus" language is an attempt to bait the media into shifting the discussion over to where it started, but where COVID-19 started becomes a moot issue on February 9 in terms of Trump's failure to act. The publicly available study on February 09, 2020 supercedes China as the causal agent of Trump's incompetence, because from February 6th on, Trump still had enough to time to start doing what he waited all the way until mid-march to do.

Even for die-hard conservatives, it makes no sense to re-elect him given that the same incompetency and horrible instincts is bound to repeat in the next four years...conservative or democrat, some things are just unforgivable. He needs a good kick in the balls on election day.

I’m sure most people who seriously complain and bemoan Trump are probably just as at risk and dangerous to the overall population as he is.

Dummy Trump is now on the verge of bankrupting the country like he bankrupted his businesses.

I put it this way. As president, dummy trump had a duty to stay informed about COVID-19. If he had fulfilled that duty he would have known by February 09-10 about the research on Coronavirus that had been published on February 9, 2020.

The February 09, 2020 research clearly anticipates through inference that once COVID-19 hits US Soil (or any soil), it will rapidly spread from human to human. The study also points out that rapid transmission is metastaized by the fact transmission can occur through asymptomatic carriers. The term "super spreader" was first introduced.

As I said before, what China failed to do on February 9th and beyond is moot in so far as Trump's incompetence goes, because on February 09th the information about rapid transmission among asymptomatic patients was publicly available and easily obtainable.

If Trump was doing his job, he would have taken action on or shortly thereafter February 9, 2020. Trump's incompetence is multi-fold: 1) he waited too long to warn the American public to start social distancing and avoid large gatherings; 2) he waited too long to shut borders down; 3) he waited too long to initiate a European travel ban, and 4) as late as February 26, 2020, he ignorantly and grossly misled the public by telling them that the risk to americans was very low.

Telling the American Public that the risk was very low as late as February 26th encouraged the American public to still congregate and socialize in crowded places and in close proximity to one another. Failure to warn, failure to act, and outright misrepresentation equals outright incompetence. (Some members of the infected group may even have a basis for a class-action lawsuit against Trump to the extent a causal connection can be shown between Trump's incompetence and their infections.)

At the end of the day, this scale of fuck up is not all so surprising given that Dummy Trump came into the presidency with 1) virtually no political experience and 2) a track record of bankrupting businesses.

Dummy Trump Jr. (aka Mr. Uptight) trying to deflect from dummy daddy's incompetence:

Donald Trump Jr. on Twitter: "WHO Spread False Chinese Government Propaganda: Coronavirus Not Contagious Among Humans https://t.co/Wf0NpA9o7t"

Whatever the Chinese Government or WHO said or did after February 9th is irrelevant.

The ominous findings were right there for dummy Trump, dummy trump jr., empty-shell Pence, walking corpse carson, and the team of so-called experts to review.
