Because I'm not threatened by any of it. I think a lot of people are threatened by a lot. I find it interesting. I work with Type A's. Tough. Tougher than me by leaps and bounds. They are capable of acting on things that I would only act on out of immediate self-preservation. They act out of premtive protection. They see threat in things I do not. Mere whispers of threats and sometimes they are right. Most times, they aren't and compound what they try to avoid (IMO). I'm interested in that but it's understandable. It's preventive in nature.

I see the thin skinned and see the same. I'm more interested in that personally, because I see depth that mirrors reflections, not images. Whatever their descriptions, seems familiar. Like I'm watching a movie with the sound off. I can figure the plot out but not nuance and I guess that is more interesting to me than preventing the unpreventable.

Hm. I'm the same way, super-thick boundaries, not threatened by much. It actuall makes perfect sense; people who live in fortresses have less to fear from the outside world.

The one question where I put a 1 was the one about it being scary to get too close to someone.

That used to be scary - now it's just exhilarating, as I've developed ways of adjusting for both my and the other person's discomfort should it become too scary. It's kind of like managing a hot air balloon and making it go where you want to

It's an interesting concept - it certainly explains much of the..lets call it discomfort I went through when I was a kid.

And the war I fought to retain this. So many people punished me for being this sensitive, and many with good intentions did nothing but prod me to force me to 'grow thicker skin' - and I did, in response, but not the way they intended, which got me penalised as well. Meanwhile I fought tooth and nail to retain that sensitivity, because every time I gave in and shut it off, it left me feeling blind, completely cut off and numb. It freaked me out, and made me paranoid about all the info I was missing. The worst part was the lack of connection to the universe. The world became utterly grey, meaningless, dull and...well, sapped of life. Give me thunder and turmoil any day over that. For that matter, they might as well have insisted I amputate my hands because touching things put me at risk of getting burned

Long-term, feeling that numb and cut off was way worse than the daily pain and overload I'd become used to.

Fast forward a decade or so and I'm utterly glad that my self-preservational instinct kicked in on this. Over the years, I was able to hone my skills and learn how to channel this sensitivity in a constructive way. It has become an integral part of my life that I wouldn't give up for anything in the world.

51 - on the thin side, but still the middle. I am too much an individual to really be thin, IMO, even though the general sensitive description suits me better. I get overwhelmed easily, true, but I have a strong personal identity separate from others, a strong feeling of internal clarity (my emotions are highly nuanced, to me, not blurred together), and too much moral backbone to be unduly influenced by the emotions of others.
