So 8s are known for being the most aggressive type, and 9s are known for being the most passive type... so 9w8s and 8w9s, where is the line exactly? I've always kinda wondered about this tbh. How do these 2 different impulses mix together inside 1 person?

9w8s have a harder time changing gears, they would rather do or not do than go back and forth. An 8w9 would seem to be more straight forward about what they want in the face of rules/authority, but the rest of their energy goes into the 9 pattern of preserving the peace. an 8w9 would fight for their peace whereas the other would more likely forget fighting since it would ruin it

Would 8w9 and 9w8 be the most passive-aggressive types?

Typically 8w9s do not enjoy conflict as much as their w7 counterparts however they are still willing to bring on the aggression in a direct manner, they have the ability to be diplomatic about things though. In the face of anger they will push against it.

9w8s hate conflict so typically show aggression either as passive-aggressiveness or uncontrolled anger that comes out in bursts then returns to passiveness. In the face of anger they will move away from it.

For 8s anger appears to be a form of control, for 9s anger is a sign they are not in control.

As a 9w8 I actually don't mind conflict in general. The way I see it, no matter what you do, conflict is going to happen, so the only way to get rid of it is to find a reasonable solution. At work, I'm always the first person who will say something if I'm not happy with something going on (ie. not getting enough hours) and I will do my best to make sure a solution is reached.

I'm not afraid of avoiding conflict, as long as there are reasons for that conflict. And when lines are crossed, I don't mind being on the harsh side every now and then. But my nine is always the most dominant one and always present. I don't let things go out of hand, ever.

Same. I tested as a 9w8 once, but regardless, I think it's just a matter of healthily approaching conflict . . . assertively? I actively try to make sure I don't whither away like some schmuck while still trying to not be too docile in the face of minor adversity.

But, like, it's not like 9s are all 'Aaah, conflict,' and then they die, amirite? I haven't read much about 8s, but I doubt they actively take part in ripping people's heads off for the sake of getting a point across. Well, not as a rule.

9w8s and 8w9s, as enneagrams, don't seem all that paradoxical, if you ask me. Wings are more supplementary, so it only pulls some traits from that enneagram, and more diluted ones, at that.

At least, that's how I always understood it. o_O

I'm a core 4w3 with an 8w9 fix --- and I'm not passive aggressive until and unless it's the only tactic available to me and all others have been exhausted [but even then I prefer not to be because passive aggression doesn't resolve any conflict].

I personally prefer to say things directly to people's face and that includes a few choice words just to make sure they know where they stand in my eyes.

That said, I would rather that things come to some sort of peaceful conclusion, but if they don't, I just make a mental note of never engaging said person ever again. Life's too short to carry shit forward or to waste time talking/thinking about people incapable of seeing different points of view. I forget and move on. If the person ever feels like apologizing, I accept it graciously and don't hold a grudge either.

That said, I'm also a double reactive --- so definitely much more conflict oriented. Sometimes I even enjoy it. Debating is a passion - even if there is no conclusion.

Finally, I'm most reactive when my view is challenged and can be at my most confrontational when someone weak or unable to defend himself/herself is being picked upon.

Eights definitely are aggressive, and the wing determines the style. Wing sevens want to push on other people to determine a boundry, while wing nines are more interested in living their life and will get aggressive if a boundary is crossed. For example, my boyfriend is an 8w9. He's very blunt with people and extremely assertive but he doesn't push on people unless they're trying to interfere with his life. Type 9s can often be passive, although 9w8s will attack if they feel like their normal dispute resolution abilities just aren't working.
