Okay that's probably the least hippie Donovan song, what's more psychedelic than... The Rolling Stones? They also did disco in the 70's.
I heard that the 60's was more than drugs, fashion and colors, I guess there was a war going on or something, and people didn't like it. Weird, huh?
But most of the time it was just about looking and sounding psychedellic:
