I don't know if I'm weird, or if this is part of a cognitive function and others do this too. But I figured this is the best place to ask. [emoji16]
What cognitive function (if any) am I experiencing?
I can pretty much always tell how people are feeling or thinking. Whether they're frustrated, or sad, disapproving, or just being fake, I can tell. It is usually by watching facial expressions, or tone of voice, or body language, or a change in body energy. Honestly most of the time I don't actually understand how I know the things I know.
I work with middle school girls, and they have astonishingly asked if I'm psychic (jokingly for the most part) because I can always tell when something is up, and/or what they're thinking in regards to a situation. Because of this, I know the motives behind what people are telling me, and can usually tell how they want me to respond to them. From there I can decide if I want to just tell them what they want to hear, or actually give them my opinion, depending on the reaction that I want out of them.
Because of this, I make friends with everyone. Everyone feels like I understand them perfectly and everyone feels like they can tell me/ask me advice on everything.
I rarely have conflict with anyone because I just understand how people work and how I need to engage with them. I often play the mediator role between those around me who are in conflict by explaining the thoughts of each and thus resolving the situation. Sometimes I almost feel like I'm cheating in life because I just understand the why behind everything that is happening around me. I never just react to a situation because there are too many factors playing into my actions. I almost feel like I can never be the real me because of it.
So is this one of my cognitive functions? Any insight is greatly appreciated. I basically fried my brain trying to put this into words. Someone just tell me that I'm not weird, please. [emoji12] Thanks in advance!
