Although the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact has been an ongoing campaign for some time, there's a push now, it seems.

The problem is who has signed it, with all the states in favor of it those who would easily be expected to be in favor of it, with the possible exception of New Mexico and Colorado which were considered "swing" states in the aughts.

True, this should be done because:

1. President is the most federal function of them all and thus it should be determined in a way that all votes are of equal value
2. Popular vote means that literally the whole country is in play down to the last household (and that is very good for obvious reasons).
3. The process would be much more simple than it is now and it would have less holes in the process.

The point is to reach "swing voters" instead of "swing states". There are people with no party-preference in non-swing states who can't have their voice heard at all.

There are also more moderate members of swing states who don't want to have to deal with extremists in either party getting the base riled up each year.
