Lay me down, tender in a summer field,
Sweet, like the meadows of the faded past;
The harvest of a loafer’s fruits revealed
Where phallic purple orchids softly cast

Their muted scent upon the evening breeze,
Languidly signing through the nodding grass
A harem for returning honey-bees
Bloated with the nectar of their day’s repast.

So rare, so perfect - now fly me as one!
Through a flower-drenched world on throbbing wings
Thoughtless, harmonic to the setting sun,
Till my dreams call me back to smaller things:

To a fleeting, natural, human beauty;
Soft by my side, she reaches out to me.
