I have so much of his music I adored him as a kid but I think he's a bit too brassy if Im being completely honest. I prefer other composers in almost every way. @_@ there I said it.

Also I may like Across the Stars slightly better than Duel of the Fates or Battle of the Heroes. @_@

I like Across the Stars more than Battle of the Heroes, for sure. I think I prefer the AOTC soundtrack to ROTS, probably for that reason. I wish they had used Duel of the Fates for the whole fight.

What is up with them missing the opportunity to use Duel of the Fates to make BOOKENDS? It's an epic piece of music that is great for showing that EPIC THINGS ARE HAPPENING. Why are they so reluctant to reuse it?

I prefer Across the Stars and the music during order 66 to either of those other themes.

If you prefer less brassy contemporaries of Williams, then John Barry and Jerry Goldsmith are where it’s at. Other than his Bond scores, Barry used brass sparingly and seemed to prefer it as just an accent to strings, whereas Williams seems to compose with strings as an accent to brass. Goldsmith was somewhere between the two

I enjoy both these composers, I have a lot of goldsmith too as I recall.

SW ROTS is probably my favorite I like some of the different musics he used esp. Padme's rhuminations.

I like sound tracks, but I like for the music to be able to inspire other stories, not just remind me of scenes...

Goldsmith was a god. It’s apparent how much he’s influenced the younger generations of composers. I don’t really hear a lot of composers imitating Barry though. He had a very unique style despite his music being less complex than a lot of Williams stuff

I just got my Special Edition of Goldsmith's "The Edge" last week, it has additional tracks not on the prior more general release.

The theme is beautiful but perhaps overused on the soundtrack. He does a really great job with the bear scenes. One neat thing is in the credits section, he switches to an upscale jazz version of the movie themes -- cool.

Williams was so popular when I was growing up for writing these blockbuster themes, but I only really liked them as a kid -- as my tastes got more nuanced, I found them kind of derivative and boring. I then found the music in Jurassic Park kind of sweet, but I remember my perception of Williams really changing when I heard the A.I. soundtrack, which was more off the beaten path for me rather than these bold brassy simple lines. It showed nuance and complexity and I was left to evaluate whether he, I, or both of us had changed over the years. I've generally found his stuff since the late 90's more interesting.

My favorite all time Williams score might be Empire of the Sun. I also think it’s one of Spielberg’s top 5 movies.
