I acquired a prime copy of C. Wilson's War because of this post. You rock.

Is it for the film's effects? The film has mostly invisible effects.

No, I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue. In fact, I thought the effects were rather poor regarding scenes such as the helicopter attack.

Here's the company that worked on Charlie Wilson's War. They did a lot of subtle effects work. That party shot, for example, was shot on a blue screen stage -- none of the background (like outside the window) in that was real.

And here's the show reel, which showcases some of the effects shots in Charlie Wilson's War.

The visual effects supervisor for Charlie Wilson's War was former Industrial Light and Magic veteran Richard Edlund. Some of his credits include the original Star Wars trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Poltergeist. After he left ILM he supervised the effects for 2010, Ghostbusters, Poltergeist II, Die Hard, Alien 3, Multiplicity, and Air Force One, to name a few. Those movies were done at the now defunct effects company Boss Film Studios, which Edlund founded. Long story short, Richard Edlund is one of the modern effects gods, alongside Dennis Muren, John Dykstra, and others.

I think Richard Edlund is now a freelancing effects supervisor.
