I didn't know about this gem cutting technique called cabochon. It's the opposite of faceted.

The purpose of a cabochon cut is to showcase an opaque gem's qualities as highly polished and rounded out. It's used on stones to bring out their inner lustre, shine, and depth.

The purpose of the facet cut is to enhance a translucent gem's brilliance and sparkle. Facets show the stone's beauty, fire, color, and brilliance to the fullest advantage.

I wonder if people had to choose between being a cabochon or faceted which would they choose? Why? Does this say anything about a person's self-concept?

I'd choose to be cabochon. Being all transparent like the faceted gems seems really intrusive.

I was going to say I preferred the cabochon as well. The cuts make them look cheap and tampered with..

Cabochon is so beautiful. Nothing more beautiful than a cabochon ring..

Cabochon definitely. Its more organic and doesn't look 'technical'
