I see Trump got a 60% discount on his bond amount, down from $465 million to $175, and another 10 days to come up with it. This amount is something he can handle, so the whole story becomes much ado about nothing.

He seems to have the legal system wrapped around his little finger. I'm still not certain he will win the election, but he should be free and unfettered by any legal proceedings.

Justice system found not to apply to rich people, what else is new? I wonder what low-level flunky they'll throw the book at so that all the beloved optimistic people can convince themselves the system works.

If his "severe legal problems" didn't start to hit until now it is kinda safe bet that they wouldn't. Some of those cases should have been solved years ago. Plus the fact that he stormed the primaries only adds to the picture.


Therefore in November we have Biden vs Trump and "may the best man win". Everything else is basically a distraction at this point.

Germany is in mourning and shock.

First the new away jerseys for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 cup were presented and they are *gasp* pink and purple!

This obviously lead to a lot of pearl clutching from certain circles, especially since the team sucked big time in 2022 in Qatar where they wore a rainbow batch as a sign of LGBTQ alleyship. There just has to be a causal relationship.

To top things off the national soccer association declared that after 70 years of partnering with Adidas (a German brand) they would wear Nike (American brand) outfits starting in 2027, simply because the Americans pay double the money for the team to wear their cloths. I actually agree this is sort of lame.

So to summarize: We have a European championship coming up which we will host. I don't think I need to explain that soccer is the most seriously taken sport in these parts of the world. Rightwingers already have a hard time accepting that about one in five players in the national team is a migrant (or son of migrants). Last time they wore a rainbow and this time they'll occasionally wear pink. Imagine the outrage. I think, if they now were to change to a female trainer or feed the athletes some vegetables there would be civil war!

I personally don't care about professional sports at all, but have very fond memories of when Germany hosted the world cup in 2006. There was a magical mood all summer. And I know how much this matters to many people.

It would be controversial to feed the athletes vegetables??? What do they feed them now? I would think a healthy, balanced diet would be in order, perhaps carb heavy due to all the energy they burn off training and playing.

I was joking. We have slightly different culture wars than you guys but they are roughly similar. One of them concerns veganism.

Plus this is the most inconsequential of his trials. Nobody really cares about this crime (not the hush money nor the accounting shenanigans). So even if he gets convicted voters won't care. That might not be the case in the insurrection/election interference trails, but those will never see the light of day.

As I said, if you can't convict the man in time don't even start this circus. Since he will only look as a victim. Plus drama and struggle is where he is at home the most. Therefore the number of such situations has to be reduced, not increased. Especially if they wouldn't do the actual political damage.

I kinda am. Miss October 1993 deserves to be the VP pick for the guy who's only here because so many citizens are Tom Cruise Crazy. It would really cement the whole Politics as Singled Out. If we're gonna go reality tv with politics we can deny the MTV switch from music videos to reality shows roots of how we got here. I'm kind of hoping porn stars start running for office soon. I think they would be pleasantly surprised at their chances these days. (not that Jenny McCarthy is or was a pornstar if the squiggles on the playboy channel were any indication in the 90's she kept it solo for the most part.) But yeah. I'll bet she's pretty pissed. For a lot of reasons.
