I actually think America is getting a bit of a raw deal in the thread, but I couldn't resist posting this. It's pretty funny.
I agree with you.
What I find interesting is that usually Geography talks come down to countries and capitols. (or economy and military) but there is little about mountain chains, rivers , lakes, vegetation of some specific geological features.
So we end up with pictures that are anthropologic.
Here is a map that is somewhat less so.
Or you can have a map that is clearly outside of interests of average people.
But in a way it is the most correct one.
