Marketing, Manipulation and Misleading all begin with the letter m. You also cant spell ethics with the ' letters either. In the world of marketing everything is legitimate if it leads to a hard sell. Of course, some of the most effective marketing campaigns don't even make logical sense. Digestible factoids, easily consumed. Even if weird, they stand out and seem novel. And Novelty is always on the market. Study enough of it and ' you start to realize everything under the sun is it and it is everything entertainment these days. If you've heard of it, its because marketing. Entire personalities are influenced, and created by it. It is in many tragic ways like it or not, beyond legitimacy. It simply is.
