Generally, IQ's cannot be a reliable source of people academic abilities. Determining people's aptitudes based on their accomplishments is much wiser. (ignoring lazy or uninterested bums)
Not that I disagree with you but do you have an explanation as to why it would work one way and not the other?IQ and "brightness" don't correspond either. When dealing with disabled children, IQ is a fairly good way to identify problems that couldn't have been identified from simple observation, but thinking that it has a hard link to actual intelligence is ridiculous.
Maths are a more tamed system, I'm simplifying here but, you have everything you need when u do maths, you don't need to have as great of a capacity to connect and make up concepts based on a very wide range of types of information and methods.
Maths are more linear, and you just can't think of everything and include it into a concept in a narrow linear fashion, you're bound to miss alot of elements, or treat your philosophy as an equation where you expect the result before doing the thinking.
IQ and high grades don't directly correspond. I know any number of really incredibly bright people who were B students at best because school bored them to tears, and they couldn't summon the motivation to do the paperwork.
EDIT: I've heard it said that in industry, you often find that the A students are hired by the C students.
^So what do you think it should be determined by? Their favorite color? There is a place for not over relying on "IQ" but pretending it isn't there isn't a good idea either.
I have a mediocre IQ (I was supposed to struggle w/ college prep classes) but I have a 4.0 college GPA and was placed in advanced classes when I was younger (surprising but true). In many ways, I am really lazy and wait until the last minute to finish my work.
That could be. I would say coming up with creative connections and original ideas is definitely my forte so in that sense college seems fairly easy.Could it possibly be that your math/logic is just average but you've got higher IQ in other areas?
