ok, let's see if I can get this out of my head as elegantly as it feels to me:
A pattern is the underpinning of this train of thought.
I've been thinking back to the episode where we see Gus Fring's then partner be shot dead in front of his eyes and the emotional devastation this causes Fring. This was the day that the Gus Fring
we knew, the one we experienced in the series, was
created. To me, this event echoes the massive emotional magnitude Walt felt seeing Hank shot. So, I'm going out on a limb to say that this is the day that a new 'Walter White' was made as well. A NEW Gus Fring-like Walter White.
Walt did try to put the Heisenberg hat back on, but it just doesn't fit ... it's not right anymore...
So to say it another way, Gus Fring was utterly created on the day his friend was shot. So I'm going to guess that Walter White is now about to truly evolve too, a new Walter White, an Walt who is clear and calculated and ceases to blunder ...
Because after all, all throughout the series, we've watched Walt basically childishly rant and fumble and klutz his way around with this persona of Heisenberg, somehow still managing to stay alive through some combination of intellect, dumb luck and serendipity. When we see Gus Fring, he seems the opposite of Walt - an epitome of polish and control; although Gus Fring is
clearly a person with issues, he's cautious and careful and astute in a way Walt just isn't.
More pattern? Gus was alone. Walt too is now truly alone.
I'm guessing that Todd is about to become the new Mike. Dedicated. Cold. As much as we might 'like' Mike's character because of his saltiness, he wasn't a very nice man. He's killed a lot of people. He was totally dedicated to Fring. In the way that Todd looks up to Walt. A true disciple.
So, anyway, I think it would be cool to see this people-pattern being duplicated. I think we will see Walt truly step into what he has become.
As Walt said in Season 1 Episode 1:
Chemistry is, well technically, chemistry is the study of matter. But I prefer to see it as the study of change.
I hope too we're going to really see what happened with the Grey Matter folks ... because what happened there is ultimately what started Walt on this path. So it seems only fitting that this is where some of it ends too.
So, yeah. We'll see how it ties up. Walt's cancer is definitely a wrinkle in envisioning him with a Gus Fring longer-term empire transformation though. I see more patterns and allusions, but this will do, at least I've got some of that out of my head.
