While I'm here

thinking about picking up a shuttle. acer, or arctic

I would use it to watch films mostly and video editing

from a financial and aesthetic standpoint, the ability to tuck it away is very appealing

would appreciate some typology forum input on no-brainer modifications.

I think it can be done. Read reviews on TomsHardware and buy your parts on Newegg. Look for MicroATX cases.

If you've never done a custom PC, you'll want to do a lot of research before you dive into this project... choosing the right parts which are not only compatible, but cost-effective and accomplish your goal for the PC is almost an artform and it requires much study of reviews and guides.
