I really dont want him to be a martyr in any way shape or form. I want him defeated in the polls.
I agree, but have also felt a concern about his statements that he will refuse to exit the White House if Biden wins. If he literally will not go, then he will have to be escorted off by force. That could also turn into a martyrdom or related scenario, even if he got wounded in the process. Trump has created quite the powder keg scenario. I guess we wait and see what happens.

My reticence with leaving it at "defeated in election" is that even if he loses and (by the grace of whatever gods exist) agrees to leave the White House, he'll still be tweeting hourly and he'll really crank up conspiracy/hysteria about how the Dems "stole" the election. He seems to have hordes of practically mindless minions, "tough guys", who are more than willing to show up with machine guns if he indicates that's what they should do.

At some point, Twitter will cut him off. But Fb is concerning - it's already a cesspool of conspiracy/misinformation, and Zuckerplug doesn't seem amenable to censoring him, even if there's a threat of violence and/or it's destroying democracy.

I think the only way to quiet the threat is covid death or jail. As much as conspiracy groups are already blaming some Dem plot for the covid, that's something we'll either get lucky about or not. I just don't see jail happening though; I think it's merited on tax stuff/fraud alone, and there's a plethora of "abuse of power" bullshit that he deserves, but I just don't see it coming to fruition.

I don't like that "this person dying an act of God death is the best possible thing for this country" is the only thing I can come up with, but his ego is too big to simply quiet down and accept defeat if he loses. He will raise hell, using his minions, any way he can.

Like I said yesterday, I care about the people working at the WH (butlers, kitchen, housekeeping, grounds people...) and the security details (Secret Service, Marines) that are being exposed daily. As far as Trump or his family or his supporters - I will show them exactly the amount of empathy they have shown the American people suffering from COVID.

And Trump is finding out real quick that socialism is probably going to save his life.

It's annoying that even NPR keeps posting a new count of all cases related to that event that doesn't include all the essential workers involved. Especially since their care won't be anywhere as thorough. I hope at least they're included in the tracing.

What does that mean?

It means that his medical bills will be covered from the federal budget instead of private insurance. (I am pretty sure that this is what she meant)

What would be kinda double standard if it happens.

The mechanisms of socialized medical care, I assume... paying almost nothing in tax while getting the best medicare care available on other people's expense.

----

Yeah, I don't see a silver bullet to get through this any quicker. It is just a mess that we need to wear our hip boots for and just wade forward. All these events will be exploited, and he will just keep talking and lying and stirring the pot.

I noted today that his approval rating has been rising simply because he's sick, I presume, although he has habitually ridiculed/mocked others in similar situations and is in this situation because of his own negligence. (Tip of iceberg there, but I'll stop.) That used to piss me off -- like WHY would approval be going up? Wth?? -- but there's nothing to do but keep pushing forward and make sure people vote the hell out of this election and keep pressure up.

And what would a Trumplican like you have to teach either current or former lifelong Republicans like myself and highlander? Wake the fuck up, man. That you keep pretending you're some expert conservative when you're merely a self-described "I vote for the person with the big ideas" goofball, makes me laugh every day. Trump is not a conservative. Hell, even real deal conservatives agree on that so what is your excuse for the endless ignorance? You keep pretending to be something you are not, and I already asked you long ago if you were a lifelong Republican. You are not. So drop the act.

I completely agree with the wake up comment. WTF? Are people stupid or something? I don't get it.

??? She explained the comment in the post right above yours, and it's talking about policies that are already in place.

I wonder if we're going to see the last gasps of a the conservative regime when Trump is gone, like the deliberate red neck populism was their version of their last card in the deck surely?

Not that I think there is a ready alternative, I think they've been playing their last card for LONG time.

And the difference between the establishment and the alternative is largely the same as the difference between Pepsi and Coca Cola, they arent the same but they are the same product, broadly speaking. Its faux choice.

I think its largely because no one can or will ever discuss distribution/redistribution of wealth and everything that goes along with that.

I don’t think Trump needs my compassion. After all, this isn’t even as bad as the seasonal flu. He told us this, and we can trust his words over the fake news. And if he does die, then it is what it is. This is the lesson I got from Trump, not sure why his supporters are getting pissed off, we’re just following the example he’s set as a leader

I'm sorry but there are already socialist policies that have been part of the federal government framework for a long time. Most people aren't really aware how much is socialized but it's not a question of "you believe in that shit?" It's been part of the federal government all of your life.

Yeah. Exactly. There's an alarmingly obtuse double standard somehow thriving in Trump's base. It's most stunning in the "law and order" regard.

Trumpworld delighted in cruelty. Now that Trump has COVID, it demands empathy.

^Super LOL. I mean, I'm not convinced it's true yet, but just LOL that it's believable.

What makes me laugh is that Trump and all his supporters have such a twisted, Hollywood generated view of masculinity, they can and will believe any bullshit to maintain this false image. I mean there is a person on this forum that equates a political and economic theory WITH GENDER. Obviously that person needs help but so do their conservative talking heads.

Mike Huckabee said this am - “We are the party of the emancipation proclamation, not the emasculation proclamation”

What the fuck?? :rotfl: There could not be a better argument for M4A, with robust mental health care, than American conservatism.

Anecdotally, I have yet to hear of a husband and wife testing positive for COVID-19 at the exact same time. I know Trump and those close to him have been being tested every day. This isn't a scientifically validated concept, but of all the people I know whose families have positive Covid test results, everyone doesn't typically test positive on the exact same day. The virus incubates a little differently in each person and it would be difficult for everyone to get the exact exposure. In the majority of the cases I've heard, the wife's positive test result lingers longer and sometimes never happens. I also know a nurse who was hospitalized with COVID-19 whose husband did not initially test positive.

I feel suspicious about it. It feels false to me that they both tested positive at the exact same time, unless viral doses were really high initially. Also, why isn't Melania hospitalized as a precaution? Why didn't they bring the medical staff and equipment to the White House for Trump? It has to be a greater challenge to the secret service. I tend to think he either doesn't have it, it's all a stunt to declare "THE CURE" right before everyone votes, or he's done for. It doesn't feel 100% natural, although it's obvious he has placed himself in harms way and many on staff have contracted it, so it's not a shock he could have a positive test. It's all the surrounding details that feel off to me.
