The Overton Window can be expanded in multiple directions

Often people who speak about expanding the Overton Window will only talk about expanding things further to the right.

It's only fitting that other directions be entertained.

I felt very described by the following, and it challenged my thinking:

The Overton Window always seemed a flawed analogy. I prefer to think of it as a bunch of lit windows on a large skyscraper. The pattern may change, expand, contract, and sometimes certain windows within a lit cluster go dark, while windows around them stay lit. This works better in an age in which society and culture seems increasingly fractured and at odds with itself.
