Shortly after my mushroom escapade my two friends found a huge amount on a fallen tree in someone's yard. I brought another friend and we drove over with a large box and a kitchen knife. B knocked on the door to see if the people were home and to ask their permission, just to be polite; but they weren't. So we took them.

It was the most mushrooms I've seen in my life. We filled the box. One was bigger than my head! They cooked a bunch of them and ate them with family, and hopefully tried to preserve the rest. I ate a lot of mine and regrettably let some grow mold.

This was my face that day: :happy2:

I have checked back to that spot and the first one, and found a few more good ones.

They are starting to grow around my apartments now too. Not a lot, and not really big and delicious looking, but very cool. There is a nice looking one on a tree in front of my usual parking space.

I recently found a large patch in a yard next to Earthfare. I took one home and tested the spore print (which turned out ok so I ate it), then went back today and got another 2. I also checked out a spot I saw a couple of weeks ago while driving. There had been a lot, but they've dried up, and the ones that look good are unfortunately too high for me to reach or climb to (and I probably wouldn't try anyway because it's right next to a big road and I don't want to draw that much attention to myself by being the weird girl climbing a tree on public property).

So now I have 5 known mushroom spots. They really are starting to be all over the city. I'll continue to explore and hunt, and attempt to preserve what I find effectively. The ones I've dried have become somewhat discolored and have developed a weird powdery substance in places. I don't think it's spores or mold. I'm afraid to eat them until I take them to a professional who can tell me what's going on and how to do it right. But the ones I froze are great; I just have limited room in the freezer.

I've become quite fond of oyster mushrooms; they taste like a combination of white fish and lean chicken, and feel smooth like fish.

In the past year or so I've seen more mushrooms than ever before. Before becoming acquainted with oysters, I saw several big weird looking ones around the apartments and a large patch of mushroom-like fungus on the bottom of a tree on campus. One was a puffball which looked like a deflated volleyball and the others were just gross yellow things. But all were awesome nonetheless. I think the mushrooms are coming up from the earth in larger quantities and growing larger in order to cleanse the earth of all the toxins and pollution, and it's happening now because the earth is changing. How exciting!

I have a working camera now, so I can document future adventures with photos.
