I enjoy the color palette he uses and his style has a very dark ethereal quality to it. A lot of his work depicts familiar yet alien landscapes.

I’m certainly not some stuffy art critic. I’ll just say I enjoy a lot of his art because it has this slightly hazy dreamlike quality to it, like fuzzy recollections pulled from the mists of time. Again I’m drawn to a more subtle color palette.

I first discovered his work as a teenager when I saw his book Castles (I own a copy still). He’s done quite a lot of art dealing with Middle Earth. Peter Jackson was inspired by his work and he was one of the artists that produced the beautiful sketches that appear at the end of The Return of the King.

Another favorite artist of mine: Moonassi. His style looks simplistic, yet he's able to translate more delicate feelings through it that I personally find hard to put into words.

It takes forever for me to upload images on my laptop, but I'll just say I'm a big fan of Caravaggio and Baroque paintings in general. The right amount of contrast between light and dark with compelling figures. I'm not sure how to describe or articulate it, but paradoxically, in their realistic and detailed forms, Baroque paintings have a way of evoking the surreal and imaginative within the viewer.
