Why is Star Trek: Voyager regarded poorly by so many trekkies?

Was Star Trek Voyager Good?

  • It was total shit and any trace of it should be stranded in the Delta quadrant

You know, I wasn't surprised to find out that existed. I think that fact alone proves that my innocence has been lost.

I had actually looked for one like that and couldn't find it.
Congratulations.

I am not sure, but for me, I suspect that it's at least partially because I was a lot younger during most of TNG & was less familiar and jaded with all the recycled tropes and was not yet exposed to as many higher quality shows, and... Reasons & stuff.

Mind you...

DS9 is still my favorite. I would say Sisko should be offended for even taking a sit in this comparison, but he wouldn't give a fuck, because he's fucking Sisko.

Did Voyager suffer from an effect of running alongside DS9? As in DS9 is so great with its badass captain, and great chemistry between characters, we don't need to give two shiny shites about Voyager.

I think so, to some extent. This will seem contradictory, but I think that it also benefited from running simultaneously. Voyager rode on DS9's coattails. There were many crossovers or elements from DS9 which worked their way into Voyager and vice versa (having Dr. Zimmerman as a guest on both series, the inclusion of the Maquis, the Cardassian spy Seska, etc...it's a stretch, but Voyager also did its own unofficial mirror universe episode [w/o actually visiting said universe] in "Living Witness," which I think was an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of DS9's sojourns into the mirror universe)

In someways yes, especially when the Voyager story linked back into the events in the Alpha Quadrant as in Message In A Bottle.

I wish they'd found more ways to link to Alpha Quad events.

It also bothered me that little mention is ever made of the Beta Quadrant, despite the fact that a good portion of the UFP and the majority of Klingon/Romulan space was in that quadrant. If you consider all of the leaps and shortcuts USS Voyager made along the way, it's reasonable to guess they would have already entered the Beta Quadrant by season 6 or 7, but I think the writers were afraid it would confuse viewers.

Mind fart: for a moment I forgot about the ST galactic chart, and tried reading that instead like a socionics analysis ^

Star Trek The Undiscovered Country - seeing the different races in Rura Penthe, vast majority would have been from the Beta Quadrant within or near to Klingon space is one insight, but ironically, the Beta Quadrant has not been explored that much, it's an undiscovered country...

Good point. I always wondered where Mr. Knee Testicles might come from.

DS9 was a consistently overacted series.

I thought DS9 had 2 or 3 decent main characters. The rest of the cast was very meh. The best characters were usually the recurring guests. Gul Dukat is my favorite Trek villain.

Oh yeah, this one is from that brief period where Geordi decided to try a beard.

Does that make NTJs and SFPs the Dominion? And NFP's and STJs into the Borg Collective? ;)

The Sisko was awesome. Although I must admit, I found Avery Brooks's acting style a little unusual at times. The stilted way of speaking, with... pauses at seemingly... random places.

Still, he did punch Q in the face, and it was glorious. Not even Picard did that, and I'm sure he wanted to.
