A decline in human population is good for our carbon footprint, no?

On a separate note, I would like to see pumas domesticated like dogs.

Yeah, I actually took this as really positive news. I'm sure there are negative consequences but they seem less bad than the opposite.

Tear down abandoned cities and buildings, recycle them, and let nature come back.

Long Slide Looms for World Population, With Sweeping Ramifications

All over the world, countries are confronting population stagnation and a fertility bust, a dizzying reversal unmatched in recorded history that will make first-birthday parties a rarer sight than funerals, and empty homes a common eyesore.

Maternity wards are already shutting down in Italy. Ghost cities are appearing in northeastern China. Universities in South Korea cannot find enough students, and in Germany, hundreds of thousands of properties have been razed, with the land turned into parks.

Like an avalanche, the demographic forces — pushing toward more deaths than births — seem to be expanding and accelerating. Although some countries continue to see their populations grow, especially in Africa, fertility rates are falling nearly everywhere else. Demographers now predict that by the latter half of the century or possibly earlier, the global population will enter a sustained decline for the first time.

Well, I used to link the book buy the TED Talk guy who challenged the over population thesis, bizarrely, completely out of the blue he contracted inoperable throat cancer and died.

It'll be too late once it becomes common knowledge to actually do anything about this. The plans were put in place a long time ago, at least as long as China's one child policy or the dying rooms in Romanian orphanages, anti-natalism is a thing but its only part of the culture of stagnation and decay, of people seeking their extinction and deciding to try and take the species with them.

There were a couple of good Star Gate episodes in which they cast an alien humanoid species resembling mankind seek the extinction of humanity in order to take the planet through a long game conspiracy involving sterilizing medicine which, besides sterilization which no one knew about, would grant its user longevity of life and immunity to disease.

That's Detroit in a nutshell. Also, from the articled I linked earlier:

"and in Germany, hundreds of thousands of properties have been razed, with the land turned into parks."
