Ranking the Star Trek films

I've only seen one or two of the F&F flicks -- they're okay, just kind of mindless and sometimes fun. If I was more into that style of film, I'd probably like them more. So STB was the same way, I don't remember many details now except for the bike jump and the alien who helped them (played by Sofia Boutella) and Idris Elba who is always cool -- I just saw it the one time in the theater. And it was the last trek film with Anton Yelchin.

I was just happy they weren't going to butcher another past-Trek movie in a half-baked remake.

It has also been like two decades or more since I watched STTMP. I remember liking the end, and I liked the Veeger bit, and I liked Ilia. I just remember falling asleep a lot if I'd watch at night because of all the space in that film. Which, well, it's about space, so I guess it was more realistic with all the empty space and slow time, but... man.

Anyway, its rank near the end of my list doesn't mean I thought it was awful, it just was less engaging over all than the ones ahead of it. And it opened the door to doing TWoK, so....!

I think the only one I hated (sorry, Cat) was Final Frontier. I actually remember leaving the theater feeling outrage.

TMP is fairly middling in my list but I do enjoy it. It’s grown on me a lot over the years.

So it’s interesting that TMP was basically a lot of the ideas and themes from the cancelled Phase II series. A lot of elements from Phase II were carried over to early TNG. The characters Decker and Ilea were basically reinvented as Riker and Troi. Not to mention Goldsmith’s TMP theme was reused as the TNG theme

Yeah, exactly. That's basically what I was thinking of with regards to the interesting behind the scenes aspects of the movie.

Hmmm. Just listened to the Trek score. yeah, he has one theme (which I like) but typically there are not many other cues, it's mostly that one repeated.

Yeah. That’s why I ranked his others so low too. One good theme and a lot of repetitive action music that just blurs together
