What do you think Hitler's enneagram type was and why?

Earlier discussions below suggest enneagram 6.

Regarding Hitler:

"With a mixed record as a student, Hitler never advanced beyond a secondary education. After leaving school, he visited Vienna, then returned to Linz, where he dreamed of becoming an artist. Later, he used the small allowance he continued to draw to maintain himself in Vienna.

He wished to study art, for which he had some faculties, but he twice failed to secure entry to the Academy of Fine Arts. For some years he lived a lonely and isolated life, earning a precarious livelihood by painting postcards and advertisements and drifting from one municipal hostel to another. Hitler already showed traits that characterized his later life: loneliness and secretiveness, a bohemian mode of everyday existence, and hatred of cosmopolitanism and of the multinational character of Vienna."

This^ tells us that he was an feeler, dominant or auxiliary.

"During the 1st World war, he was continuously in the front line as a headquarters runner; his bravery in action was rewarded with the Iron Cross, Second Class, in December 1914, and the Iron Cross, First Class (a rare decoration for a corporal), in August 1918. He greeted the war with enthusiasm, as a great relief from the frustration and aimlessness of civilian life. He found discipline and comradeship satisfying and was confirmed in his belief in the heroic virtues of war."

This^ sounds like he was an action oriented sensor dominant type.

"According to Hitler, the natural unit of mankind was the Volk (“the people”), of which the German people was the greatest. Moreover, he believed that the state existed to serve the Volk—a mission that to him the Weimar German Republic betrayed. All morality and truth were judged by this criterion: whether it was in accordance with the interest and preservation of the Volk.

Parliamentary democratic government stood doubly condemned. It assumed the equality of individuals that for Hitler did not exist and supposed that what was in the interests of the Volk could be decided by parliamentary procedures. Instead, Hitler argued that the unity of the Volk would find its incarnation in the Führer, endowed with perfect authority. Below the Führer the party was drawn from the Volk and was in turn its safeguard.
"

State existing to serve the public sounds like Statism.

His father looks like an ESTx type. Probably ESTP. He was pushed by his father to go to a school he did not desire, so he deliberately failed the classes so that they will take him out. That's like Si, resisting Se passively.

Can't make much of Hitler though. I am inclined to think ISFJ because of his heroics in the 1st WW and his artistic ability yet I cannot understand how an introvert could place himself in a position of power over an entire nation without becoming uncomfortable and have a mesmerizing effect on the people thru speeches of recovering German people's former glory and superior position.

That might explain his faulty reasoning about Jews being the root cause of Germany's demise and so on and him considering himself as savior of the German people perhaps.

Still cannot understand how an introvert and a feeler can be so dictatorial and ruthless. Can he be an ESTJ instead? But what about the artistic ability and lack of industriousness. Then, how about ESFJ then? Did he do all he did just to receive praise and admiration of the German People, as their savior?

This typing is inconclusive and is pure speculation by the way. Just putting it here to exchange opinion.

He looks abit like Hugh Grant here

Some childhood photos He looks a bit defiant yet he keeps hugging himself in his photos. Saw the same gesture in his older photos sometimes. Suggesting a closed and introverted body language.

He's an obvious ENTJ. First he's an artist and I don't know why people go wow ART = FEELING! Art is a STEM field. It's about learning technique, rules and applying them, feelings are secondary. That's why typical artists are NTs.
It's especially hilarious taking into account how objectifying and robotic his art is and how it's devoid of emotion but rather showing tertiary sensing and extroverted thinking (especially visible with his fascination with structures).
The enthusiasm for war is an expression of his Extroverted Thinking. He's receiving an external system in which he can perform in service of a grandiose goal.

Interest in creation of art is interest in technology, which persisted into his adulthood with his interest in military technology, strategy (forget lies of generals pretending he's the reason they lost the war - they were trying to salvage their reputations - that is beyond the thing where his ideals have made the war unwinnable - but his strategy is acknowledged by modern historians as solid and the objections of the generals often as strategically wrong) and architecture.

As for enneagram, I think 1. I mean this guy really went out of his way to implement idealism, which makes him one of the biggest idealists of all times.

I politely disagree. While art does require the use of technique and rules to some extent, this is a reductionist take. These techniques are applied in service of expression, and very often artists seek to pour their experience and emotion into their work (keep in mind that the premise of this point is already called into question due to equating feeling = emotion). Art lends itself to intuition first and foremost, both from a theoretical and from a statistical standpoint, and feeling secondarily. Thinking types, and NTs in particular, are often drawn to analysing art or the theory behind it, but the creation of art itself is less appealing. Also, art is objectively not a STEM field.

The rest of the post deals with cognitive functions, which I already consider invalid, and generalisations, such as 'Interest in creation of art is interest in technology', that are used to justify questionable positions.

I watched This topic being fought over for so many months on the enneagram institute discussion board. It was the longest fight on a discussion board I had ever witnessed. The general consciences in the end was 1w9 with a Self Preservation Instinct. I agreed with the winners argument.

Just to make the general opinion to be stated on the thread (not mine), majority of the internet thinks Hitler is INFJ (I don't - Im more willingly of thinking of ENFJ - but I haven't read deeply about Hitler nor I do plan to).

At PDB and in some others few forums, thinks Hitler is a 6 with some few thinking he was a 4. I don't really know.

On Similar Minds Sloan, PDB thinks he is SLOXI (SLOEI is winning with SLOAI) and I do think that sl |O| ei is a good fit.

I would say enneagram 1. It was his bizarre single minded pursuit of a world he thought was better. I think he suffered from mental illnesses that drive him to do such terrible things.

Hitler was an ENFJ so2. If anything the so6s were his followers, such as Himmler

"The Social Two is a seducer of environments–someone who is good in front of groups; a more adult, leader type. In contrast to the other Two subtypes, the Social Two appears as a powerful or intellectual person. This Two has a passion for power, and their pride is expressed through having influence and advantages and cultivating an image of being an influential person.

This Two is the most obviously proud subtype because they are ambitious, know the right people, do important things, occupy positions of leadership, and are usually admired for their accomplishments. In the Social Two, the passion of pride manifests itself as a sense of satisfaction in the conquest of an audience.

In contrast to the more childlike Self-Preservation Two and the more overtly seductive Sexual Two, the Social Two is a more adult “Power Two,” the person who owns their own company, or works at a high level in an organization, or is a leader in their field.

The most intellectual of the Twos, the Social Two needs to be someone important to feed their pride-and to be important, you must use your mind more. Seduction operates in this case through the Social Two’s ability to influence the larger group by being impressive, exceptional, and knowledgeable.

The Social Two’s name, “Ambition,” refers to this person’s passion for being “on top,” being “in the know,” being close to people who are perceived as powerful, and for wielding power themselves. The Social Two has a passion for superiority-a passion to stand above. Because of their need for admiration, Social Twos are competitive and may at times be indifferent to, insensitive to, or in denial about the emotions of others. They tend to (unconsciously) believe that everyone wants to be like them, or that people are less able than they are, or that people are out to get them because they envy their superior skills."

Instead of 2, why not enneagram 3 with a 2 wing then? Enneagram 3s are much more success oriented and overbearing.

Enneagram Three with a Two-Wing: "The Charmer".
