Yeap, that is pretty much it. Details fluctuate but this is the basic point and reasoning. When you put all democracies together they will evidently have enough to provide clear alternatives to China and their allies. What in the end means that you attract various countries and that means that you are keeping many parts of global GDP away from China's influence. While you in return get various resources and you generally have more breathing space in just about everything.

I had just been wondering about this yesterday because I knew Erdogan was still holding things up, but I hadn't found anything saying if there were talks about particular concessions to get his approval. Of course it sucks that Sweden and Finland have to deal with him, but it's good to see there's progress.

I expect that the whole developed world will make plenty of these kinds of trade deals among each other (even if just symbolic). Since the world is braking down in two hemispheres this way you kinda save some of your trade and make sure your block has all or most of resources in all of it's parts. This is basically what is now called "friendshoring" for obvious reasons.
