Please help me determine my type!

Hello.

I have been frequenting MBTI sites for a few years now and spent admittedly way too much time trying to determine my type. It seems I have difficulty being objective when it comes to myself.

Your evaluation and input would be extremely appreciated.

*My apology in advance for the "life story"; I simply want to provide as much information as possible to help you help me figure out my type!*

Interests & Hobbies

As a child (ages 9 - 12):

  • Collecting rocks
  • Catching and keeping caterpillars
  • Composing "songs" (more like short, melodic pieces) on my keyboard
  • Playing flute in band
  • Reading the dictionary
  • Reading the phone book
  • Reading the Kaiser Healthwise Handbook and learning the symptoms of diseases
  • Coming up with business ideas
  • Playing Nintendo (Zelda, Kickle Cubicle, Little Nemo, Super Mario, etc.)
  • Digging up my front yard for dinosaur bones and rocks
  • Listening to music (pop and R&B)
  • Drawing
  • Computer keyboarding (ex., Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing)
  • Reading non-fiction
  • Rollerblading around my neighborhood
  • Collecting coins
  • Coming up with ideas for inventions

As a teenager (ages 13 - 18):
  • Learning HTML
  • Devising and carrying out my plan to become an emancipated minor (which I successfully accomplished at age 16)
  • Composing music on my keyboard and computer
  • Taking vocal lessons and practicing singing
  • Increasing career experience (receptionist to secretary to administrative assistant) / building my resume
  • Writing song lyrics
  • Listening to music (alternative, female songwriters, new age)
  • Coming up with internet business ideas, building websites and earning affiliate commissions through them
  • Finishing high school early through independent study
  • Obtaining my A.A. degree
  • Researching religion and questioning the one in which I was raised

As the young adult that I am (age 24):
  • Personality typing (that's obvious!)
  • Self-improvement
  • Fish-keeping
  • My kitties
  • Personal color theory (ex., "Color Me Beautiful -- and just like my MBTI type, I still don't know if I'm a "summer" or "winter"!)
  • Investigating careers and determining the most appropriate career for me
  • Earning my B.A. degree (but in God knows what?!)
  • Listening to music (female songwriters, reggae, new age, 80's, etc. - almost everything!)
  • Coming up with at-home business ideas and ideas for non-profit organizations
  • Learning the basics of many foreign languages
  • Continued on original career path; still working in administrative/secretarial positions.

Personal Characteristics

Both as a child and teenager:
  • Had only a couple best friends; stuck to a small group at school
  • Respectful of authority
  • Responsible (oldest of 3 children in neglectful/abusive, single-parent home)
  • Avoided causing disharmony
  • Argued with mother, despite the consequences, only when she was being completely unreasonable and irrational
  • Sensitive to teachers' approval of me
  • Procrastinated on homework assignments
  • "Goody-two-shoes" with regard to doing anything that might get me in trouble
  • Very disorganized (first report card and nearly all subsequent report cards had comments such as "[her] desk is always disorganized".
  • Generally true to moral convictions (went against the actions of my peers)
  • Held my pencil "incorrectly" (still do!)
  • Quiet, shy and reserved with people I didn't know (as I got older I became VERY outgoing WITHIN the small group of friends I had)
  • Always recognized inconsistencies and flawed logic of mother's thinking
  • Aware of cause-and-effect relationship between parent's irresponsible actions (alcohol abuse, over-spending, etc.) and outcomes

As the young adult that I am:
  • Easily inspired, yet easily disinterested -- a new career idea, concept for living or social concern has proven time and time again to quickly and completely take over me only to be abandoned with disregard soon thereafter.
  • Still disorganized (though I'm now actively trying to implement techniques I've read about) and late for everything
  • No real friendships (since entering long-term romantic relationships in my mid-teens); though I'm outgoing and sociable with people at my work while at work.
  • Still a "goody-two-shoes"; considered a "stiff" when it comes to things like recreational drugs and pornography.
  • Much more assertive than in my youth
  • Very keen on spotting errors and inconsistencies (with written work, such as typos, and in arguments)

Well, if you made it this far, thank you very much for sharing your time with me. I look forward to any and all responses!

I type you as "INTJMom."

No, but seriously, I can't tell. If you post more, without consciously asking to be typed (more "natural" speech), I might be able to extract something.

silly question: have you taken any form of mbti test? that might narrow the field somewhat.

Not silly at all!

I have taken two professional MBTI's and a considerable number of online MBTI tests of various format. The results vary significantly.

I am hesitant to post even the top few type results because I am concerned that I am unconsciously skewing the results of the tests, and I don't want to influence any of your thoughts.

Your choice of traits to list and way of phrasing them could bias just as easily. Since you already appear to know the differences between traits and types, you could readily do that subconsciously.

Sounds like an NF type from what you've listed.

based on your first set of years, you are an introvert
i immediately thought Si dominant....reading non-fiction and all.

after reading the rest
ISFP or ISFJ come to mind.
i think that ISFP are the most valid, as you are aware of cause and Affect withing your parents relationship - which appears to be a manifestation of Fi+Te.

but.....the generating of ideas and questioning the religion your were raised under + collecting of things and *digging up* of things(Ti and Se) led me to ISTP.
INTP could be possible.

in all - ISFP or IxTP.

You guys saying ISFP, you don't think the "goody two shoes" part contradicts that even a little?

I've known some goody-two-shoes ISFPs.

beyond aurora, I don't really have much to go on personality-type wise. You are very driven though. :)

My guess: ISFJ. Any IXFX type sounds good. But why do you need us if you've got TWO official MBTI administrations (did you think you portrayed an image untrue to yourself to the test administrator?)?

Or did you just completely disagree with the results.

C'mon Jeffster. We know it's all an act. All the porn and the posing is to cover up the fact that you spend most nights crocheting doilies for your great aunt Sally.

I'm a little confounded, too.

If 2 professional MBTI people couldn't do it with you right there in the room, I don't see how we can.
MBTT isn't that much about behavior.
It's about thinking processes.
How you take in information, what you tend to focus on, which values you use to make decisions, and how you prefer to order your life.
Js can be messy and Ps can be neat.
Is can perform on stage and Es can need time alone.

There's a test I took recently which I liked because even as familiar as I am with MBTT,
I was unable to skew the results.
Maybe it will help you.

I always make sure to hide a skull or a Metallica logo somewhere in the doily though. :alttongue:

Just to clarify, the two professional tests I took were administered online; the administrator simply interpreted the results and sent them to me. I've never had the opportunity to speak face-to-face with a test administrator.

I've always pondered whether a J could be messy and a P neat. Would you please elaborate on how this may be?

I am appreciating all the speculations on my type.

I promise to announce the results of my professional tests and the types that I typically test as after a few more guesses.

I can actually field that one. My mom is a messy J. Her bedroom (and other rooms) of her house tend to be very cluttered, mostly with things that have sentimental value to her, because she doesn't like to throw things away. But she is very much a planner, she'll make long lists of travel possibilities, to-do lists, lists of things to bring with her on trips, she'll plan her meals for the week and sync that with grocery trips. She has definite schedules for sleep, meals, feeding the cats, tending to her lawn and garden. Beyond that, she has a mental organization of her priorities in life and writes reminders to herself about things and people that she needs to give attention to and various methods for doing so. All of those to me are examples of "J traits" but they don't prevent her from being very cluttered in her living space with all kinds of her papers, travel souvenirs, clothing, and other items that she simply doesn't place a high priority on being neat with.

When she does clean, she's very scheduled and organized about that too, and she will definitely go way overboard in preparing for company. But eventually, the clutter will return, it always does. ;)

Contrast that with my style of planning only what I absolutely have to and mostly just letting life happen, whatever it brings.

Oh, and that question I answered makes you J, probably SJ, and I would've said introvert. I'll say ISFJ for kicks.
