Hi everyone!! Happy New Year! I wanted to post this again, as I’ve edited it and added a few more details and found a few more questions online that I think may have a bearing on my typing and may be helpful. I’d also like to get some more opinions on my type - anything is appreciated!! I’m really confused - I've done some research on cognitive functions, but not sure how they'd manifest in my thinking. I feel like it would be a lot more clear to someone else reading this. Found these questions somewhere on the internet, and I thought that they'd help. Thanks in advance!!

1) What aspect of your personality made you unsure of your type?

A lot … I’m interested in many things & I have a lot of hobbies. Stereotypes of the MBTI types all across the internet, and those make me unsure of type. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I’ve narrowed it down to maybe ISFP, ESFP, ENFP, or INFP. I feel like an introvert at home, yet an extrovert in public and at school. I’m pretty sure that I use Fi instead of Fe. I’m pretty good in my field, yet sadly, every description of sensors I’ve seen are written as if they’re “stupid” and incapable of thinking. I know that this isn’t true, but I’m just curious of what others think. I feel like I use Se, as I love the pleasures and finer things in life and adventure. While I feel great while exercising and I’m not clumsy or awkward by any means, I’m not “sports” oriented, and most Se descriptions include this. I’m just really confused and was hoping that someone could clear things up for me.

2) What do you yearn for in life? Why?

Passion, art, success and love. I think that pretty much everyone wants success in some shape or another - for me, that’s earning my doctorate and becoming a teacher and just becoming the ultimate “renaissance woman”. I want to be passionate in everything I do - I want jobs and hobbies that I’m passionate about, and I want to delve into every pleasure that life has to offer. As for love, I enjoy everything about it - the sensations, the excitement, the affection, the chase, the flirting, the risks, the physical and emotional intimacy, etc. I want someone in my life who wants to have fun with me, appreciates me, understands me and accepts me for everything that I am. I’m a big fan of the “star crossed lovers” concept. I want to learn as much as possible, and just know a lot in general.

3) Think about a time where you felt like you were at your finest. Tell us what made you feel that way.

Honestly not sure, lol but it probably involved being inebriated, feeling and looking sexy, and getting hit on by all the right people.

Also, after I’ve given a successful recital (I’m a singer) and everyone enjoyed the music.

4) What makes you feel inferior?

When someone dresses better than I do, looks better than I do, or has more than I do.

5) What tends to weigh on your decisions? (Do you think about people, pro-cons, how you feel about it, etc.)

When the decisions have to do with myself or my future, I have trouble making them, as I don’t want to go down a path where I’ll be trapped with no exit. I do my best to see pros & cons, but I’m really hesitant to pick a course of action at times. I love putting decisions off until the last second. While I can envision how certain things may play out, I struggle with choosing the right course of action at times. I also take into account how something will make me feel - not really in an intuitive manner though - i.e. if I will feel happy or not in the end.

6) When working on a project what is normally your emphasis? Do you like to have control of the outcome?

If I don’t care about a project, it is like pulling teeth to get me to do it. When I care about the project, it feels as if I’m moving mountains, and I strive for absolute perfection. Either I care so much that it’s unbelievable or I don’t care at all. I definitely like to have control of the outcome, but practically speaking, there are other influences that could control the outcome, including the professor’s attitude toward you, or if you are working with a group. Best to butter people up beforehand in that case.

7) Describe us a time where you had a lot of fun. How is your memory of it?

I remember one night, a particularly reckless one - it was literally perfection and so much fun. My friend and I went to a casino, I got drunk on whiskey, ate incredible food, and later, at like 2am, we were were driving on country roads at 65mph with Led Zeppelin blasting in the background.

8) When you want to learn something new, what feels more natural for you? (Are you more prone to be hands on, to theorize, to memorize, etc)

I like learning new things, but I’m not a fan of memorization or studying in the traditional sense. I remember taking two organic chemistry classes last summer, and I did better in lab than lecture because I really enjoyed making things and putting the theory we learned in class into practice. I tend to get bored easily and zone out when I do, or just get up and leave for a little while to walk around. I’m not sure if it’s from a lack of intellectual stimulation or interest or not.

9) How organized do you to think of yourself as?

Very disorganized - I was known for my desk being a mess with artistic projects and what not in my 1st grade class and the habit has never left me.

10) How do you judge new ideas? You try to understand the principles behind it to see if they make sense or do you look for information that supports it?

When I get an idea, I usually first see if it’s feasible to carry it out. I definitely look for info that supports it as well.

11) You find harmony by making sure everyone is doing fine and belonging to a given group or by making sure that you follow what you believe and being yourself?

I’m always myself … the prospect of being a sheep makes me want to run until I die of exhaustion. If people don’t like it, they don’t like it. That being said, I’m not a bigot either. I believe in including others and making others feel welcome but it’s because it’s a value of mine -not because I naturally feel a need to do it. If someone doesn’t want to be bothered - I respect and empathize with that. Even if it’s something inconsequential, I am seriously disturbed if I go against what I believe in.

12) Are you the kind that thinks before speaking or do you speak before thinking? Do you prefer one-on-one communication or group discussions?

I like one-on-one discussions, but group conversations don’t bother me either. I like telling weird, funny stories about my life and having a bunch of people listen and think I’m hilarious. That’s when I feel awesome. When I think before speaking, it gets really bad - I feel weird and just “off” as opposed to when I just go with the flow and let things be.

13) Do you jump into action right away or do you like to know where are you jumping before leaping? Does action speaks more than words?

Depends. Ideally, I like to know what I’m getting into, especially if it's a decision that will impact me for a long time. I can be impulsive at times, however; A possible good example of this was when I was younger, for a short while, I dated the son of a boss behind the boss's back, and I didn't even think of the possible consequences as everything was happening. Nothing bad ended up happening and I don't believe that the boss ever found out, but I lived through bouts of paranoia for a while as a result when the boss was in a bad mood. I've done many things like this with romantic relationships in the past, and only a long time after do I realize it was stupid (of course now, I feel bad about it). Action DEFINITELY speaks louder than words. I hate it when people are all talk and no walk - huge pet peeve of mine, and why I've broken up with many significant others.

14) It's Saturday. You're at home, and your favorite show is about to start. Your friends call you for a night out. What will you do?

Definitely go out with friends - not going to miss an opportunity to hang out and go on an adventure. I’ll find the show somehow later, and if I didn’t, then whatever. You only live once - I don’t want to spend my time sitting lifelessly on a couch if I have an opportunity to get out.

15) How do you act when you're stressed out?

I start to internally catastrophize, I withdraw and try to sort the problem on my own. Many times, I’ll draw - I really like drawing, as it allows me to be fully engrossed in the present moment and forget about everything else. When I was a kid, I had an extremely stressful home environment, I’d draw for hours and hours as soon as I’d return from school, and I don’t think that I’d have left it sane, if I hadn’t had my art supplies.

16) What makes you dislike the personalities of some people?

Conventional people who are closed-minded and unwilling to try new things
People who judge others without fully understanding them
People who lack empathy
People who have a stick up their ***
People who are afraid to break rules
Pretentious people
Racist tendencies
Discriminatory attitudes
Etc.

17) Is there anything you really like talking about with other people?

Lol just gonna be honest here … people. I enjoy knowing all of the ins and outs of my school, and being the center of information about people and what’s going on with them. I also enjoy funny, witty banter with my friends. I like talking about art, food, sex, music, and literary analysis type stuff in my classes and coming up with my own analyses for the poetry and stories that I read. I really love seeing how authors use colors in their works and what it could possibly mean.

18) What kind of things do pay the least attention to in your life?

I’m not a big TV watcher, I find chores extremely boring and stupid - when I’m at home, I always get yelled at for my inattentiveness to chores.

19) How do your friends perceive you? What is wrong about their perception? ? What would your friends never say about your personality ?

This is a complicated one to answer. Everyone knows me as the hilarious one who does whacky things and who is smart in their field of study without trying too hard (foreign language). I’m also known as the sexual one with experience who can’t follow the rules and “looking for trouble” is appealing to me. I’m also seen as a highly creative/artistic person who is pretty intense. Many people have used the words “intense” and “creative” in describing me. My personality at home is different than when I’m out entertaining people. I’m very defensive and I sink into my mind and can get angsty. I’ve suffered from depression in the past and my past has had some very dark places. I feel like there is definitely a part of me that others don’t know and that I put a front up sometimes because I don’t want others to see the real me, whomever that is.

20) You got a whole day to do whatever you like. What kind of activities do you feel like doing?

Good lord, where do I start ….
Shopping
Eating at various restaurants that I’ve judged to have the best foods
Drawing for a while with new sketch pens
Having a superb practice session for voice
Doing everything I can with a significant other (if I had one in my life)
Wine tasting
Traveling abroad
Sitting with friends on the porch and casually chatting with nowhere else to be in the world, complete freedom, no obligations
Going on an adventure somewhere with the people I love
Seeing family

21. What are you most afraid of? Dying/Death, betrayal, living an unfulfilling life, getting hurt emotionally or physically, organized religion, restrictions on my freedom, being controlled, someone invading my privacy, irreversible failure

22. What were you like as a child?
Going to be as honest as possible. I was placed in the gifted program when I was in first grade at the recommendation of my instructors in school. I caught on to subjects quickly and easily. I was social at times, then I’d withdraw to “recharge.” For example, I’d socialize for half of a recess period, and for the second half, I’d build a fort in a corner and hide with a book. When I got older, I quickly discovered how to manipulate all of the ins and outs of the school system. My dad is a prominent member of the local educational community, and I found out how to manipulate that to my advantage, in case anyone questioned me. I’d frequently skip class or leave class without getting into trouble, but still graduated first in my class. I pushed A TON of boundaries. I said inappropriate and “shocking” things at times - in my eleventh grade class, I made a sexual joke and the teacher got mad and took two points from my final grade. I’ve attempted to “mess” with teachers to reveal the hypocrisy of the system; In my eleventh grade government class, our teacher was showing us a film on the civil rights movement, and children were jumping out of windows in it to participate in a protest. I raised my hand mid-film and asked “Can we do that?” And kept asking “why not?” just to shake things up a little - he was mad lol…. (It was a sort of “why are you showing us this behavior if you don’t condone it” type of thing - I hate when people act like they support their own romanticized ideals of history and causes, then try to constrain others and think it’s ‘unlawful’ when they attempt to put it into practice and rebel). [Lol I tend to get into the most fights with people who are confirmed SJs - can you tell?] People got annoyed with me because “I always had something to say/an ‘excuse’” and always took advantage of loopholes (still do this and it still is considered annoying in the eyes of others). I always felt the need to have the last word and “be right” (still haven’t broken any of these habits). I got into A LOT of arguments with parents and family members, and would at times be a smarta** just to be one ; a lot of it had to do with them trying to tell me what to do - I’d automatically want to fight them on it, even if it was pointless. This is just second nature to me, and I realize that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. The argumentative side to me causes a lot of problems with the family I live with now too. I’ve tested as an ENTP a few times, but I’m not sure if it’s correct - I feel like I’m pretty in tune with my emotions, and I’m not sure that I use Fe in any capacity.

23. What makes other people dislike you?
As I said in the last question, a need to have the last word in an argument, the need be right, talking back, doing well without trying too hard, figuring the system out and using it to my advantage, doing what I believe is right for me and at times not caring how it’s going to affect others (I definitely feel bad about it after the fact though, but we can’t change things after they’ve happened unfortunately). I also swear like a sailor, and this doesn’t go down very well at times with people who are obsessed with being “proper” and live by gender roles (I’m a woman who has taken on many traditionally “masculine” traits). I enjoy defying stereotypes and society. While it’s just a part of my natural vocabulary, I see it as being genuine/authentic when someone swears and allowing yourself to form deeper bonds with others. I also like anything avant garde - it tends to shake people up in my community when they see what they call “naked people” (what I call art) on my computer and phone lock screens.

24. Are you manipulative? How do you manipulate?
I’ve jokingly (and truthfully) been described as a “kiss a**” before - I’ve definitely used this tactic to get what I want, although it’s a bit exhausting when I do use it. I always seek to fulfill my needs, achieve what I’ve set out to do and get what I want without being a jerk.

Based on this I'd guess ISFP, e4, and maybe sx/so? I don't usually comment in or even read type me threads because it's so hard to type an entire person based on a few words as seen from the outside. So this isn't some sort of accurate statement or anything. The more you participate in the forum and the more people get to know you, the more accurate the guesses will become. Also, nice username.

ESFP would be my guess as ISFP's tend to be rigid in a word kinda way. You seem to put experiences and fun above personal values. So ESFP over ISFP.

You have a beautiful personality if I must say so myself, never lose that fire that you have in you. I could feel it through your post and that makes me happy.

Yeah, I was skeptical when I first came here, but so far everyone here has been open-minded and seem to have their hearts in the right places.

Totally agree :) Everyone has been super sweet and so nice! I'm also really glad that there really isn't a stigma against sensors here. I've noticed that a lot of other forums are really judgmental to them!

That bias is pretty bad in a lot of other places, but we as sensors can still debate and kicked with the best of them. It seems here that people just accept you and there's way less people trying to force themselves to be a certain type.
