Let's try this again, I suppose. First thread didn't seem to want to go through for whatever reason - is there some sort of new thread validation process for new members or something? Or maybe I'm just unlucky. Ugh. Anyway, if anyone takes the time to read this, you're free to offer opinions from any system (MBTI, socionics, enneagram), but I'd prefer a little thought behind whatever type you go with as it should be interesting to read. I've posted these on more than one forum but thought I'd see what kind of responses this one gives.

Hello. It does take time for responses to come to the Type Me section (about a day) so don't feel bad. My attention span was screaming in pain. I want to say INTJ 5w4, but I don't know. I see some lower Se. Have you tried this questionnaire?

Hello! This is a questionnaire that attempts to discern one's type by analyzing one's focus in everyday situations.

1. During your youth (7'ish to 18), What did you focus on the most? What activities did you like and why? What aspect of life was lax in attention?

2. You're in you senior year of high school (or whatever equivalent) and you are looking back over the last couple of years. What was your favorite aspect of the schooling experience and why? Favorite subject and why?

3. A couple of friends call and invite you out to a restaurant. While there, you all are pleasantly conversing and one of your friends makes a comment that irked you. What are you're thoughts and how do you respond?

4. Your schooling is done and it's time to strike out into the world!! What sort of career do you want to go into and why?

5. A friend is getting married and they put you in charge of the cake. You narrowed it down to two places to make an order. The first is a bakery with whom you got a good relationship with. The other is a well-known cake maker to whom everyone goes to (your friend hints to it as well). Which one do you choose and why?

6. You get into an argument with a friend/family member/co-worker. They criticize one of your personality traits. What would most likely be the focus of their critique?

7. It's New Years! You and your friends are out and about after a party. Being drunk, one of your friends suggests to do something....'questionable' (Nothing serious. I.e, drugs, escort, etc.). What are your thoughts and how do you respond?

8. A new art gallery opens up and your friend wants to go to the grand opening. Both of you analyze all the paintings and sculptures. What about these works warrants the most attention from you? Why?

9. You have been saving up and decide to buy a new car. At the dealership, you peruse the lots. What are the criteria and factors that influence your choice? Which one would initially be your main focus?

10. Yep, you now have a kid (sex of your choosing)! Years pass and they are now 15 years old. You notice their personality traits are the complete opposite of how you were when at their age. Describe how they are. Describe the possible conflicts that would arise between both of you due to differing temperaments.

Oh, no, it's not because of the members. I think I ran into a forum hiccup of some kind when trying to post is all. INTJ is what I'm inclined to think myself also, but I will try your questionnaire as well. Thanks.
Mayflower : Thank you for the questions as some of them were interesting to think about.

Leaning INTP... or INFP? There's an inferior Fe vibe but Fi is decently present. You're a tough one. I'll return!!

Shiver's daily point of interest:

Today I disassembled a light fixture to save a trapped stink bug after I heard a soft but constant tapping from somewhere in the room. Turns out he was smacking his shell against the plastic cover in an effort to get free of the heat. Not sure how or why he got in there in the first place but he lives to wander another day!

After he was free I fed him a crumb of breakfast food and took pictures of him walking around on the table before losing track of him again (I like to think he's embarking on more epic adventures; how amazing and horrifying the world must be for a creature of that size). The same bug has been hanging around in various spots of the room for awhile now and I've actually given more attention to it in this past week than humans I know. :|

The more I look, the more INFP you seem.

A feeling type seems odd considering the supposed correlation with Big Five Agreeableness and my shit tier score in it.

Daily PoI:

Went to get some lunch from a nearby Chinese place and opted for my usual variation on kung pao chicken loaded with enough hot red peppers and crushed flakes to melt a person's insides (the people there give most all of them to me because nobody else likes them I guess). I won't eat again until tomorrow as I track and cycle my calories.

On the way back, spotted a police car about a half mile behind me, riding near two other cars. I opted to turn and take an unnecessary detour through a parking lot to end up behind them. Can't stand driving with police behind me - I tend to drive rather fast and weave in traffic.

Yeah, boring day. Reading on enneagram though...hm.

Have you watched any of Michael Pierce's videos? He does a great job covering the functions in a clear way.

I've watched a couple of them in the past, yes. Going by his descriptions I would definitely say Te/Fi > Ti/Fe valuing, but then I think it would be bizarre to ever consider me in tune with Fe at all, heh. Were I to ever be an F-type, I'd most certainly be an "unhealthy" or misanthropic one. I'm certainly "individualistic", at any rate.

Re: Enneagram, this seems possible. A lot of my life - in any activity I do - could be defined by having this innate need to be the best at the things I prefer to do, but this is also strongly linked to a need for "standing out" as an individual. Third or second best is never good enough for me when it comes to a game or hobby; I feel the need to come out on top and by as large of a margin as possible. I think this is how I likely "prepare" myself for the world, as described in some of the enneagram texts I've seen.

There are things for both Fives and Fours that both do and don't resonate with me and I think it ultimately depends a lot on context. Neither category seem to be fixated on anger as the primary emotion and that is definitely mine, haha. For this reason I've also been looking into Eight.

I found that this video helped clarify a few things about enneagram to me. I hope it proves helpful. Covering Enneagram

Pretty interesting watch - it definitely gives a compelling case for 8 and 5 to me. What are your thoughts on the "tritype" theory? I've not looked into it too much - is it generally advisable to find the best fit single type first?

I would say find your core type first as that makes finding your tritype easier.

The official RHETI test gave me a Type 1 with some others rather close behind, although it said that if one is 3-4 points or more ahead of the others, it is my most likely type. I suppose I will have to do some more reading tomorrow.

I do! But be warned, my analysis tends to be in-depth! I read your entire questionnaire and developed a very strong opinion of my own about possible typings. I correlated all of your answers systematically/ metaphorically/ emotionally, then kind of wrote a bit of an essay in my head, and pumped out my conclusions here...

I'd submit for your consideration:
Enneagram Tritype 154, sp/sx. (I know some dislike thinking about tritype right away, but if you can conceptualize it, I think it's worth looking into.)
Tentatively??: 1w9, 5w4, 4w3. (So sorry if this is too much, my gut feelings tend to be specific like that....)
Socionics ILI-Te.
MBTI: INTJ

Here's my reasoning.

Anger:
Some common themes in your answers included your distaste for people who are unaware of the greater impact of their actions. People who are short-sighted and impose themselves on others or deal with people unreasonably. There is a consistent feeling of impatience that keeps coming up; a mistrust that people will be willing or able to take the time to carefully consider how things might best be accomplished. There was an emphasis on using time effectively and minimizing waste and undue effort.

Why I don't see Type 8: Even when introverted, a Type 8 is an explosive personality, even when tempered with a 9-wing. Eights like to assert dominance and use it to their advantage, and cannot help but express their anger openly. In fact, Eights dislike having their ability to express themselves openly and often imposingly tempered by Type Ones, who are always telling them to restrain themselves more and consider the impact of their lack of restraint.

What I do see- 1w9: Based on your answers, you strike me as a 1w9 "Idealist." Though Ones are often described as traditional, stodgy, and often intolerant and backward, I don't think any of those traits are inherently the core of Type One anger. Type One anger is idealistic and restrained, and it's also confronting- Ones want to improve their environment and optimize the environment in which they live. I imagine an INTJ Type One with your level of creativity and openness to be an excellent pathfinder- someone who can take their intuition about how things will unfold in logical, seemingly obvious sequence, and elegantly explain how those processes will ultimately succeed or fail, at least as far as they can tell from the evidence they have. (I would say this is especially true if the One is paired with type Five).

Your dislike of intrusion and need for emotional distance, quite, serenity and order in your environment suggests a 9-wing. There isn't a tendency to want to share your vision with others and entice them to adopt you as some kind of mentor or leader or someone to come to for advice. It seems you're content to theorize from afar, wishing others would take the time to really search themselves and make more rational decisions. (A classic conflict between type One Ni-doms and type Eight Se-doms. The former wants people to think ahead, be prudent and thoughtful and carefully determine the outcome of their potential actions. Type Eight Se-doms like to respond without restraint to the immediate situation, where being "careful" only matters if it means they're putting themselves in a less tactical position, which changes in step with the way events are currently unfolding. To tell them to stop and consider the long-term is, in their view, to stifle their tactical advantage and leave them vulnerable to attack from potential threats. Though you allude to an awareness of outward threats in your answers quite frequently, it seems to come more from the Type Five anxiety.
Which brings me to...

Why I hypothesize Type Five could possibly be your secondary type:
There was a definite familiar "class consciousness" vibe to your answers that reminded me of many INTJ Fives I know with Marxist leanings (mostly in terms of the economic theory). There is a constant sense in your answers that you feel the need to constantly gather data to corroborate the validity of your conclusions, which seems like Five-fix helping to reinforce the One-fix's desire for elegance, rationality, reasonableness, quality, correctness, accuracy, discernment between "definition A" and "definition B." The One-fix seems to only be content to make a relatively authoritative argument for a certain stance on any matter when it has gathered sufficient data to deem its conclusions reasonable. The Five-fix would deepen the 9-wing's tendency to feel imposed or intruded upon. It would emphasize the need for a quiet, stable, balanced place to consider the best way in which to proceed with some useful task or undertaking. The ability to find peoples weaknesses / achilles' heel I think superficially resembles type Eight until you look at the interaction between type One and Five in the context of tritype. Fives integrate to type Eight, and Eights disintegrate to Type Five. The Five aspect is cunning and strategic, and highly aware of environmental threats and potential realistic dangers in the environment. Fives and Eights are both realists, but Fives are withdrawn realists and Eights impose their sense of realism on their environment in often strong, pragmatic ways that demonstrate their ability to conquer challenges. Fives, however, are aware of threats, but always conceptualize and "map out" where those threats lie. If you are an INTJ with type 5, you would be incredibly well-equipped to gain an "outside looking in" investigative stance that decisively and intuitively maps where you exist in relation to the systems, trends and processes that threaten you, and effectively avoid (withdraw from) those threats. An Eight would directly "take on" (or confront) them.

Finally, Type Four
You really didn't strike me as someone who is very much concerned with maintaining a certain "air," "image" or "performance." But, you emphasize the value of style, a sense of aesthetics, and a somewhat objective view of what looks good- high product manufacturing standards to ensure that products have "the right look." There's a lot of design thinking, it seems, in the way you go about life, which seems to come from an aesthetic (could I even be so bold as to day "emotional"?) attachment to the beauty of things and the creation of a beautiful, well-planned-out environment to think, dream and live in. Self-awareness and avoiding shallowness, sameness, and unoriginality were common themes in your answers. A desire to understand what is of the highest quality and to excel at creating things of distinctive beauty based on guiding principles and standards makes me think that 4w3 is possible. Though it all depends. It seems you're averse to the idea of status and prestige, but you pursue excellence and distinction. This could have more to do with Type One idealism, which also values quality and good design thinking/standards. Plus, the 3-wing would be minimal because Four would be the weakest in your tritype (again, just my hypothesis), and would merely accent Four in a way that gave it a "professional," almost dryly urbane quality that could have something to do with your smooth wit and charming manner of speech- not for the sake of swaying people in order to get what you want from them, but as a way of reaching out to people- giving them some way of appreciating the quality of what you're able to create. Ones with 4w5, I'd imagine, would possibly be more interested in doing away with any form of conformity to standards, even ones that might be useful and/or productive. (i.e. it's better to go the long way around and be completely original than to give in to ANY societal expectations.")

I think with your willingness to directly or indirectly hold people accountable (like site moderators) and feel completely content and neutral about breaking ties because deep down you stuck to your principles and what you knew to be reasonable, fair and correct on your own terms speaks to all of these points.

If you're still reading this, you're a sport! I tend to write novels, but I think you might have the right kind of mind to piece together the points I made. If I'm being baseless or presumptuous at all, my apologies. This is just the sincere impression I get from what you wrote! (And what a thoroughly fascinating read, too!)
