I feel like I'm impossible to type?

I'm not going to lie, I've been attempting to type myself for months via studying MANY resources on cognitive functions and I still can't for the life of me figure out which type I am. To be more specific, if I settle on a type I doubt myself and look through CF resources again then settle on a different type. The never-ending cycle continues. I find myself relating to all of the functions at different points in time and my cognitive functions ranking on those tests (e.g. keys2cognition, celebritytypes) changes too. It's very frustrating. I hold a very deep interest in MBTI and find it a lot easier to type others than myself.

The only thing that has stayed the same throughout is being an INxx type.

Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant but on MBTI tests (which I'm aware are usually inaccurate through focusing on the four letter code rather than functions) I get either INTP or INFJ.

Okay, I've decided to do Mayflower's Naturalistic questionnaire from the questionnaire thread.

1. During your youth (7'ish to 18), What did you focus on the most? What activities did you like and why? What aspect of life was lax in attention?

I spent A LOT of my time on the internet, and I've always had an interest in fashion & makeup. Playing video games, watching anime and reading took up most of my time. I liked being able to escape from reality. I felt lonely and misunderstood most of the time because I was constantly bullied but I did have friends. I also spent a lot of time fantasising about the future or about changing my personality to become popular, pretty, and well-liked but also somebody nobody wanted to mess with; my ideal vision of myself.

2. You're in you senior year of high school (or whatever equivalent) and you are looking back over the last couple of years. What was your favorite aspect of the schooling experience and why? Favorite subject and why?

I hated school; I hated how strict it was, how bitchy people were, and I had been literally counting down the days since Year 8. To put this into perspective, we finish school in Year 11. My favourite aspect however, was being able to meet my friends. I enjoyed languages, drama, history, and maths. I got my maths GCSE (equivalent to a high school diploma) 6 months before everyone else.

3. A couple of friends call and invite you out to a restaurant. While there, you all are pleasantly conversing and one of your friends makes a comment that irked you. What are you're thoughts and how do you respond?

I am annoyed at how someone can think/say that type of thing and ask them why they think that.

4. Your schooling is done and it's time to strike out into the world!! What sort of career do you want to go into and why?

For the longest time I wanted to be an actress but after looking at the difficulty of getting into the industry I decided to focus on languages which is one of my talents. At the moment I'm in university majoring in Japanese and hoping to work in international relations after I graduate. Working in psychology or becoming a Doctor also interests me and both career paths are something I know I'm definitely intelligent enough to excel in, but I feel I'm too late to go down that path and know I wouldn't enjoy it.

5. A friend is getting married and they put you in charge of the cake. You narrowed it down to two places to make an order. The first is a bakery with whom you got a good relationship with. The other is a well-known cake maker to whom everyone goes to (your friend hints to it as well). Which one do you choose and why?

It depends on if the first place is also good at making cafes. If they are, I would go with them as my good relationship means I can get more leeway and say in the cake, possibly also getting a discount for my friend. Unfortunately in this world, who you know makes a big difference in your opportunities for success.

6. You get into an argument with a friend/family member/co-worker. They criticize one of your personality traits. What would most likely be the focus of their critique?

That I try too hard to fit in or please people, probably.

7. It's New Years! You and your friends are out and about after a party. Being drunk, one of your friends suggests to do something....'questionable' (Nothing serious. I.e, drugs, escort, etc.). What are your thoughts and how do you respond?

As long as it's not dangerous or going to lead to serious repercussions, why not? Live a little and have fun. I will not personally participate if it goes against my morals though.

8. A new art gallery opens up and your friend wants to go to the grand opening. Both of you analyze all the paintings and sculptures. What about these works warrants the most attention from you? Why?

The ones that are unique/stand out from the rest, or the ones in a different art form. I like creativity and individuality.

9. You have been saving up and decide to buy a new car. At the dealership, you peruse the lots. What are the criteria and factors that influence your choice? Which one would initially be your main focus?

I want a small but stylish looking car (preferably in black) that isn't too expensive to maintain, has good mpg, comfortable seats, cup holders (lol) and a good sound system. My main focus is on the appearance of the car and whether the price is worth what I'm expecting.

10. Yep, you now have a kid (sex of your choosing)! Years pass and they are now 15 years old. You notice their personality traits are the complete opposite of how you were when at their age. Describe how they are. Describe the possible conflicts that would arise between both of you due to differing temperaments.

They are one of the typical, outgoing, popular cheerleader types at school with lots of friends and is quite mean to people they see as below them. They are always out, aren't thinking about their future and making irresponsible decisions. This would frustrate me to no end as I want my daughter to be happy but I need her to understand school won't last forever and her future, as well as future career are VERY important to be considering. I would also be strongly reprimanding her for any disrespect to older people or for treating others as inferior. It would however, upset me how she is rarely at home and wish she wanted to be around me more. However, I have confidence my daughter would not turn out this way due to me raising them to be polite and respectful, and having a very young mindset so I'm just entertaining a theoretical scenario.

Thank you for your analysis apathylex, and for the additional insight on my nightmare child's MBTI lol.

Feeler. But chapeau for your results.

Thank you.

Why do you like those subjects? Give me an insight.

Sure. I liked drama because it was a chance to express my creativity and individuality - somewhat of an escape from reality, I presume. I also love the diversity of TV, film and how they can have such an impact on people that being able to become a part of that would be an honour. I love languages as it allows you to learn about a whole new culture and way of life, and being able to learn another language fills me with pride as a lot of people don't have the energy or determination to stick with it. I also like seeing the differences between languages, especially comparing it to my mother tongue which is English. Japanese interests me in particular as I love how different it is from English and how both the writing + speaking are beautiful (writing through how elegant it looks and speaking through how lovely it sounds), and the thousands of years of traditional history, culture, and today's day blend of traditional + modern as seen in the cities (like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto etc.) is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Even down to their fashion, music, and entertainment (e.g. anime) are unique in a way I find exquisite.

Psychology is also something I find interesting as the human mind is so unbelievably complex that finding out ways in how it works is truly something to marvel at. Both the Doctor and psychology route are through an interest in doing a very complex, interesting subject whilst being able to help people and make a difference in the world.

However, I do believe it is highly worth noting that all of these subjects are something I'm actually good at and that in turn is a key factor in my enjoyment for the subjects.

Coffee is life.
Some Tx.

Silly typo there lol. In my defense, I was drinking coffee whilst answering this questionnaire.

I do feel like INFJ is the most likely MBTI type I am. What do you think about ISFJ or INFP being a possibility, just out of curiosity?

I'm an INTP, and I used to be desperate for approval (I still am, but to a much lesser extent). When you feel so alone in the world, you need someone to tell you that you're worthy of being. I've tried to conform so many times; even the form I express myself in now is my attempt at combining my natural self with society's acceptance.

I think people with a weak feeling function can sometimes be more obsessed with approval, as their abilities to connect with others on an emotional level are so poor.

One thing I notice is that you dream of yourself as somebody "nobody would want to mess with"; this seems very Se-PoLR to me. It's a Socionics term that basically refers to one's weakest function, which they hate using. Se is the manipulation of physical structures and recognizing what is possible to do in the moment. People who are bad with it often struggle to be assertive; this is overall the vibe I'm getting from you. It's INFP and INTP who have Se-PoLR.

I am slightly leaning towards INFP, but I wouldn't rule out INTP. I do indeed believe you're an intuitive.

Thank you for your input Psyclepath, and I have to admit I do agree wholeheartedly with the feelings you're describing (even though I kinda wish I didn't, lol).

The Socionics side is quite intriguing and something I haven't really looked at yet. You've convinced me to take a look.

At the moment I'm quite sure on INFJ from several other's input from another MBTI forum, but I will have a look at INFP.
